... increasing the maximum penalty for possession and production of drugs such as marijuana from seven to 14 years, factoring in security, health and safety concerns arising from marijuana grow-ops....

...Compel internet service providers to hand over email and other internet usage data without a search warrant, even if no formal investigation is underway...
...the price... is expected to be in the tens of billions of dollars...
also they tried to shut down Insite in Vancouver

^ this is part of an ongoing thing where a Conservative MP told his supporters that the government had cut funding to a pro-choice organization, despite the fact that that wasn't true.

edit: to clarify, this is about the federal conservatives, not those at the provincial level, though I think they're just as bad if not worse, especially in Ontario. oh, and **** Mayor Rob Ford too.

I think one of the main problems (at least in the U.S.) is the fact that the difference in generations (Generation X and Generation Y/Z) is so substantial due to technology that even conservatives from this generation (Gen. Z) dont agree with the conservatives of Gen. X.

What I'm saying is that, the reason this stuff sucks is because these older people are making laws that typically only effect us (the younger generations), but they're basing the laws on their classic beliefs.

For example, I dont think anyone from our generation would have voted for the internet cap law because we know how important the internet is in our lives.

    TL;DR: Old people suck.

*This is all based on my thoughts. No real evidence to support this.

Anyway, on topic, I think they're making a pointless law (and I dont even smoke weed) mainly because of the huge costs associated with it.

    also,

    http://www.thestar.com/opinion/edito...oad-off-cities

    an excerpt:
"It seemed like a simple question that was being asked of all political parties. Do you support the completion of the $1.5 billion provincial uploading project that was started in 2008? Both Premier Dalton McGuinty and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath were very clear in their support of fully honouring the agreement. Conservative Leader Tim Hudak stopped short, saying, “The billion dollars that has been taken up to the provincial level to date, we will honour that.” When pressed again, he refused to commit to honouring the signed agreement."
"uploading", btw, in this case means basically that the provincial government takes on costs that were previously being paid by municipal governments.

it should be noted that during the 90s, the Mike Harris government downloaded a massive (ruinous, actually, imo) amount of costs onto municipal governments in Ontario, in addition to savagely slashing funding for social programs and infrastructure.
