    The Goa'uld mothership most likely tried to attack Earth to destroy Tau'ri(us humans) but the SG-1 team with their trusty friend Teal'c managed to destroy them with the Ion Cannon which they acquired from Tollan people.

    By the way, the Goa'uld mothership has shielding capabilities that can take on ION cannons.
