Will getting a higher download speed improve lag?

My ISP is offering to bump up my download speed to 30Mb down and 3Mb up for only $5. I was wondering, will this help stop lag or is that more dependent on the ping speed?

I currently have 15 down/1 up, and I was just wondering if it'll help a little in games like MW3 and BF3.

No it doesnt. It all depends on ping, 15mb down is more than enough nowadays. My very first DSL internet connection (768kb/s **** yea) got me a ping of 10-30 on every counter strike server, depending on the location.

Like others are saying, ping/lag is more about where the server you're connecting is in relation to you. Not really sure if the increase you would see in speeds would be worth it.

Nope.
Lag depends on the type of internet connection, and how far you are from the server.

I used to have wireless internet, 12 MB down/ like 2 mb up. And My Ping in WoW/and other RPGS would range from 150 - 400.
now I have a landline connection, wired, and my ping now is usually 50 - 90. Download hasn't changed much either. 15 mb/s down/ 4 mb/s up.
