Reputation: 482A lot of the folk I've seen who use female characters are nice/friendly so I prefer partying with them, male or female IRL. I'm 50/50 when choosing the gender of my character, but it depends on the amount of character customization in game.
I like to know the people I'm playing with, so that's why I usually ask personal questions, but it really doesn't matter to me as long as you're interesting. Females are full of lulz though.
Reputation: 10They only ask you if you are a boy or girl because if you're a girl they wanna get yo numba!!!!![]()
i roll male/female depending on the class or weapon type, e.g for a melee character especially like a warrior ect its almost always a male, an archer type character will generally be a female for me, i usually stick to my usual alias though weather or not its male or female, its rare that i actually use a female name for a female character and i would never rp on a female, actually i probably wouldn't rp in a game in general but that's beside the point, it also depends on on the character model and the way armor looks, if i dislike the way the male version of a race looks or what ever ill play the female.
but then again i am almost always on vent when talking to people and generally don't talk to people through text, and i don't play f2p mmo's so that the whole getting mistaken as a female thing doesn't exist for me.
also when talking to people the question of male or female is the furthest thing in the back of my mind mainly because i could care less about what gender you are and if i really did care the way some one types typically expresses their gender (not always) but it just blows my mind how stupid some people act in games, even though i am on the internet and i understand that everyone acts ******ed, i just think its ****ing hilarious when i hear anything about some one hitting on a girl in a game.
having gamed with a pretty large number of females it always cracks me up to hear them talk about someone sending them messages, actually one of my old raid leaders in wow was female and anytime we would have to pug some one for our alt runs it seemed like more often then not start hitting on her since she was constantly talking the pug would almost always end up whispering her something like "what are you wearing" and she would reply and talk with the guy for a few minutes then say the conversation over vent for the other 23 of us to laugh our asses off.
I play Girl Characters and never get asked about my gender because I name myself names like Tripwire and TastingDeath. People wont ask you unless they are ******s or you have a girly name like "love" or "bunny".
Reputation: 34I've tried to play as female avatar before but I... just... can't. It's hard to explain but I feel like cheating myself. So do I play male, besides the females characters have a lot of options for clothes and are a lot more cute/sexy.
Reputation: 480Damn I wish i had my old screenshots, but in Rift females looked like this
Its not all revealing and Loli like, honestly if more games took this approach to women other than "sex sells lulz", i would probably play female toons more.

I have a username I use all the time that's aimed more towards guys, but if you saw a girl with that name it wouldn't be surprising.
Anyways, after someone in game helps me they always ask me if I'm a girl or guy, sometimes I say girl just for fun.
Also when someone helps me in game I give them a little <3 as a joke, then they think I'm a girl and fall in love with me etcetc.
Acting as a girl can get you free stuff though.
I tend to always play female characters (despite being male) because most of the games I play have flat out better looking female avatars than male. Most of the time the males are huge or bulky and just plain look out of proportion.
Then of course there's the reason that I always get free stuff when I play female avatars. My personality tends a bit towards the feminine side and way back in RO was the first time I ever realized I could use that to my advantage when somebody gave me kitty ears on my archer. I can't even remember all the nice things I've been given since then on any number of games and all I have to do is just act normal. I love gullible people.
I play female characters so I can run around in pretty dresses that I don't have to get myself because guys buy them for me.
Then when I'm /dancing and stripping my gear at the same time I get even more money because everyone loves the pink bra and panties my toons always seem to be wearing, even in mmos themed in ancient china.
You know ur jelly, I can come to terms with the fact that I can play a female toon and be a virtual stripper at the same time.
Get your virtual currency ready boys, my pink bra and panties are waiting ~
Reputation: 10I usually always play a female. (I'm male) On Rift I made the sexiest character I could because I enjoy it. I never hit on people for fun/free stuff, and I hardly talk to other people anyway. There's nothing that annoys me more than when I'm in a guild, get invited to their Ventrillo, and there's always that ONE girl (irl) who either sings for attention, flirts with 5 different guys, and then acts like she's "the shit." I never talk in vent and only use it for in-game stuff, strategy. Everyone else talks about stupid annoying junk and I think it makes them feel cool. Any time someone does party with me, they eventually ask if I'm really a girl. I don't understand why it matters since I never show "interest in dating them."
I'll just assume all these people are 13-16 year old and try not to let it bother me.
I'm one of the people, or fools perhaps, that tend to assume female avatars are female players; hence the reason I never ask if the player is male or female. Can't say I'm surprised if I find out they're the opposite gender, as it's a quite popular trend in games.
Those who ask the question without context tend to be annoying kids that are desperately seeking attention of some sort, regardless of the gender.
Reputation: 10Meh, I play female a majority of the time, mostly due to the looks and cosmetic cash item. Really not into the bulk male looks, and most of the time, female just looks better with more cosmetic cash item to pick from.
As for being hit on, it happens to both side of the party, atleast in my experience. Just that you get hit on more if you play a female while being offer free item, which I would often decline since I prefer to obtain items myself. As for male character, we're treated more as wallet or as someone to leech exp off of.
Quite often, ppl will ask for my rl name oppose to gender, which is also an indirect approach to the gender question instead. I give it to them anyways, since my name is unisex. The way I chat gives off a mix vibe in-game, I had a gaming friend who thought I was a female for atleast 2 years until she finally ask me the question. We still chat and play game together regardless.
It's pretty normal that male player females and vice versa these days. If anything, most of my female friends don't like me playing female because "my avatar looks better than their avatar" >_>; or they want to make use of the lover/marriage system which I would decline for everyone regardless of friend or not.
Reputation: 10i play female all the time too and i dont have this problem at all, maybe once or twice over a period of years. I dunno man maybe you overuse emoticons and crap or you type like a little girl?
Reputation: 45I believe this kind of behaviour is more present in the F2P than in the P2P games. I've actually seen some players having a "crush" on a female player in some F2P games and the player might be guy, but they continue to tease him and not to mention how a girl will feel if they're being teased.
I rarely play female character, but most of the times I find the male avatars more appealing to me as a male gender than the female.
It's quite a rarity in the P2P to ask you if you are a girl and if they are, they're not teased, but there are players who might do that because they are in the early teenage years and think that is cool and get a "*****" on them. The female gamers are often quite funny on vent, ts or skype; and I agree with what Tiger said.
However, as I mentioned, this mostly happens in F2P games and have experienced that.
Reputation: 10true, most player in p2p game don't really care that I play a female as long as I am able to get the job done in parties/raids.
Because I am a big strong man.
