Melatonin is not a sleeping pill.

It is in a sense. It is the chemical naturally released by your brain to induce sleep when in darkened lighting conditions. A pill of it is safe, but is around 10x more than your brain naturally secretes. It does work for sleep and helps me when I have insomnia sometimes. It may not work if you are in bed asking why it isn't working and why you haven't fallen asleep yet. It is not a sleeping pill, it is a sleep aid.

    You're thinking of skin pigment.

Melatonin is the compound that is found in any body part that contains skin color. This includes but is not limited to the skin, hair and eyes. In this case you're talking about melatonin and the pineal gland (third eye). It's released when the sun (or another light source) stops stimulating it so your body says "sleep time". It's how we get our sleep wake cycle.

One of the best things to do if you're using any kind of sleeping aide but can't fall asleep is to drink chamomile tea with a bit of honey and maybe a cap of brandy (if you so desire it). Knocking out lights for at least a hundred years.

Right, it's a sleeping aid, not a sleeping pill. Taking melatonin is effectively a hormone supplement. Sleeping pills are psychoactives. There's a world of difference.

    This.

Melatonin isn't used to put you to sleep but for you to have a better deep sleep.

Should really research something you ingest before actually ingesting it.

I have insomnia from several different reasons. Chronic pain and nausea contribute to my sleeplessness, but there is more than just that adding to the condition.

I've tried dozens of pills, and only 1 worked well enough for me. Everyone reacts to medication differently. What works for me, may be detrimental to you.

Temazepam stops me from waking up 50 times each night, it allows me to enter a deep sleep (im usually borderline conscience), and it won't let you oversleep.

Tempazepam is what I recommend. Works wonderfully for me.

The drug has been subject to abuse, often called drunk pills. People who take it and force themselves to stay awake, start physically behaving as if they were intoxicated. Falling over, slurring works, and so on...

try not to get used to sleep aids/pills. Just use more energy during the day to make it easier to sleep at night.

This will usually help, but for lots of people its not nearly enough. Especially for people who can't go out and waste that energy.
