SOPA isn't the first time the Copyright trolls have attempted to push this through, in fact SOPA itself is actually just a rehashed version of the PRO-IP act(2008) and the Protect IP act(which is a rehashed version of COICA which failed to pass in 2010).
Point is even if you successfully lobby against this and it gets defeated, there will just be another carbon copy of this exact bill(under a different name) to replace it.
