It's a Service Pack containing the latest updates and patches from Microsoft, it also includes a built in firewall and anti-virus monitering. It just updates your system, it won't wipe anything from your hard drive.

Although I doubt installing the Service Pack will fix your crashing problem... But make sure you do a full virus scan before installing, there have been many a botched installation of SP2.

At least give a more detailed and specified information about AVG.
I had trouble finding the link to AVG download since there was lots of application and they all had the same title.

    Anyways..
Heres the link, MAKE SURE YOU DO A FULL VIRUS SCAN. ( I took 1 whole hour to scan my whole computer.. xD )

Hehe, I don't have SP2, or even SP1 I think because my WindowsXP is pirated. But I don't get those problems, so it probably won't do any good.

Yep, virus scan... and just to be safe, do a spyware scan as well!

    Good luck
