Man dies after playing League of Legends for 23 hours

Well, I think this is the right place to post this, seeing as how it is a F2P MMO, has anyone ever done a marathon gaming session and lived to tell about it:


A man has died from a suspected heart attack after playing computer game League of Legends for 23 hours.

Police found the body of 23-year-old gaming enthusiast Chen Rong-yu slumped in his chair in a corner of an internet cafe in Taipei, Taiwan, on Wednesday.

His hands were still stretched out towards the keyboard and mouse, according to local reports.

Staff at the cafe said that Chen had been playing the game since Tuesday evening and took frequent nap breaks.

However, when a female empoloyee tried to wake him on the Wednesday his body was cold.

Chen's family told police that he suffered from a heart condition and officers believe that a combination of fatigue, lack of movement and the cold weather, may have caused him to have a heart attack.

In February last year a 30-year-old Chinese man died after a three-day online gaming session.

The man reportedly lost consciousness at an internet cafe on the outskirts of Beijing after not eating or sleeping.

In July the same year Brit Xbox gamer Chris Staniforth died from a blood clot after a marathon gaming session.

His dad, David, said that his son would would play on his Xbox for up to 12 hours at a time.

He said: "Chris lived for his Xbox. When he got into a game he could play it for hours and hours on end, sometimes 12 hours in a stretch. He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world.

“I’m not for one minute blaming the manufacturer of Xbox. It isn’t their fault that people use them for so long. But I want to highlight the dangers that can arise.”

Yes really. I can't even put in words how oblivious, stupid and just overall ignorant you have to be to actually die like this.

I wonder how he could even play LOL for 23h I manage 20min before I got so bored I wanted to hang my self. Yes I know allot of ppls love the game but me nah I find it so bad and boring. But yeah u only have your self to blame not taking care of your self. Maybe MMO´s should have a built in solution like if u played more than 5h u get logged out and can not log in after u taken at least 2h break.

That would not work, if the game wants to make any money. People won't pay for a game that they can't play when they want to.

If someone can't control themselves to not play a game for endless hours it isn't the games responsibility to make them stop either.

That's like fining car companies for drunk drivers.

Lol, thats nothing. A year ago. I did 48-52 hour SC2 session in Masters. I combined this with water fasting. So no food either. Slept for 12h after and felt fine. Actually, felt even healthier. Was detoxing. Didnt even strain my eyes, because of my pro screen. Not something I would recommand every week. But this guy must have had some heart issues. Then again. My heartbeat stays the same, even in adrenaline games. Because im not a nubcake.

I think i speak for most gamers here when i say, pulling a 2 day isnt that hard. Or I guess it wasnt that hard, atleast when i was younger

I remember doing my fair bit of double days during the age of RO, like around 7 years ago. I was just plain young then. I didnt need anything. No water, no sleep, no food. I still ate, i fondly remember whole loafs of bread, and empty jars of peanut butter. Pepsi was usually my drink, only cause it was my fathers favorite and really all we had. But i think i wouldve drank anything but water if it was there. I was never a believer in water.

And about adrenaline games. I dont think ive ever got a rush from a game. A little excitement maybe but nothing like what real adrenaline feels like. I think its pretty silly to even say it tbh
