Default Say NO to Shutdown policy and Cooling-off policy

South Korean government has approved a policy suggested by the Ministry of Gender Equal that forces all game players younger than age 16 ban from playing online games during 12AM - 6AM every day.

Another policy submitted from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology called "Cooling-off Policy" is also now approved.
This policy forces the online game companies to disconnect all accounts of players under age of 17 for 10 minutes if they have played more than 2 consecutive hours and allows them to re-connect only "once".

The lawmakers supporting those two policies addressed that the policies are to prevent violent crimes of teenagers in school.

But what does online gaming has anything to do with school violency?

This will bring nothing but diminishing the potential of Game Industry in South Korea

How many people (regardless of age) do stupid shit and later cite video games/movies/music as the reason for why they did it?

Because only options that work are really worthy to consider.

The discussion only makes sense about wether or not it's a good idea.

On the other hand; How to reach the desired outcome? Through a way that works. State or parents? Even if partents would work up to 70% effectiveness compared to the state, parents are out as an option.

If you want parents to do it:
    A) It's not actually necessary
It's necessary to make it happen. You need a law to sanction it and the executive to act on it and also set consequences.
Without consequence you won't reach the goal and that is not an option acording to "not A)".
That would mean taking the kid away from the parents who expose them to the harmful environment or fining them money and of course supervising everything.
In my opinion that would be way way way worse.

Let the parents decide is not the same as let the parents control, is what I am saying.
Let the parents decide only works if the law is BS.
Let the parents control and decide only works if the law is BS.
Otherwise you only let the parents control, but not decide. That means you need to force them.
Finally you can leave the parents out of it. In case the law is necessary that's the option to pick imo.

Also I believe that the law is kinda extreme but don't know anything about the situation so I can't say if it's really a necessity. Nothing should happen without a good solid reason, same for this law, so I would reject to see anything like it where I live, but I can't say about SK.
