    "Company"

    Google it.

And you can and I encourage you to participate in any NPO, because that's what it amounts too.
Look for one that fits your interests and get down to making a difference.

Often such things are full of people whe call "Vereinsmeier" in German, which as the web tells me translates into Club-Freak.
That's a guy who only is in it for the power, drama and because people can't get rid of him easily once he has established himself.
You need to be ready to deal with that. As in real life your personal investment will be multifold that to the effort in a game, it can be a lot more frustrating.

What? How is this any different from organizations like the Masons or clubs or not-for-profits that already exist?

    Or for profits.

Basically what he talks about is
"group of people coming together in an effort to reach a goal"

That's the definition of what any enterprise is, which you will find on the first pages of about any introductory work on economics.

    Also:
To start and run an NPO is complicated. It would be interesting to see a trial to much much alleviate that kind of burden for one reason:
People do no longer define their life as much about their jobs.
That is a statement up for debate, but I believe that in the future it will come to a point where this is obvious to anyone. In the end it will be more economically feasible than trying to keep the people nailed down to structures that come from times, where people where split into classes and either working to survive or to gain power. I believe that doesn't have to be seen as a natural law in times where 90% of the work is actually done by robots.
