breathing and singing using your diaphragm, not your throat
it's the thing you use to take a shit. use your stomach and push hard when your lungs have air in them
Practice, learning good technique and practice.
You have to develop a good ear for pitch. Practice scales and intervals until your intonation is rock solid.
Or if you just want to be a 'cover singer', just keep singing to songs I guess, haha. Record yourself and play it back. If it sucks, practice more. Repeat until satisfied / you give up.
Reputation: 18the best thing you can do before is make sure you can pitch properly. Also, a good idea is to do some sort of warm up or vocal exercise (it's really embarrassing but it does help).
Something like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqVzi36AlNA (For each of the notes, just sing "la" and pitch it to the tune)
If you're going to start doing proper singing (like lessons), they will probably do a warm up before the lesson starts, but if you can do the pitching yourself without the piano noises in the background, then that's great. If you can't get to the end, don't worry about it, go as high as you can.
Also, try going down the scale instead. (the 5 notes still go up and down as normal, but after they have finished, go lower by half an octave every time)
Passion, training and it might also depend on your talents.

Reputation: 1151There is no secret in singing. Same as there is no secret in talking, watching T.V, Playing video games, Jogging outside etc. It is all about how much you put into it. How much you want to achieve. Do you have morals and do you belive you can be good? If yes. You will be. This is the truth.
Reputation: 10Admittedly, I'd love to be able to sing but sadly, I can't. I wish I was tone deaf so I would at least think I could sing okay
This has made me want to look for tips/tricks but I'm at work and I think I'll get weird looks if I started trying to sing....
