Reputation: 10Oh yes because you can't
buy gem -> sell for gold -> use gold to buy items
When people does it in other games it's P2W, but it's not P2W in GW2. (not like I'm against it or something)
RMT is not a problem for me, I'm just pointing GW2 fanboys that were bashing D3 or other games for being P2W.
Alright, lets asume, that you get gold from selling cash shop items/gems. Where does it get you? In GW practically all weapons/armor is the same, except for varying stats, I.E. item has +10 of some stat and +10 of other stat, another item of same sort has somewhat +5 of the first stat and +15 of the second one. What I'm trying to say, even if one were to use the obtained gold to buy items, it wouldn't get them too far.
Besides, it's not like you can't get any piece of item from dungeons or just buy it. The worst part of CS for me seems the crafting boost and better chance boost. The first one means, that someone will probably have to use less materials to get to higher crafting level and the other means that one will probably get better loot (while 10% isn't much, it may make a difference). Even so, you can also get the crafting boost and the loot boost only works for the person, so even if you were to go to dungeon with someone that has the loot boost, loot is generated separately, you can't see what he got, unless he links the item.
While I'm not quite happy with the shop, it is way too early to shout judgements. Someone in this thread made a point that I concur with - you pay a one time fee for a game that has been developed a long time, it takes time, it takes effort and it takes money to develop such a title. Why would continued financial support from players be bad? GW2 devs are not so stupid as to break the game with shop and lose all the players, they have the experience.

for the players that are in the beta, the servers are online and you can play!
Ah, here's another observation I've made over the course of this and the previous thread. Most people that are worried about GW2's Shop are people that never really played GW1 properly.
Sure, you can buy gear, but then what? Most of the gear doesn't change that much at max level. Just like in GW1.
The only issue is the purchasing of Siege Equipment in WvWvW. But even that doesn't bother me, because it won't be expensive, even the developers say this. It's designed to have an impact on your gold but not be devastating, much like Repairing in WoW.
I have a friend in WoW that has something like 60k. What does he do with it? **** all.
No you don't understand...He doesn't play MMOs that much, but he's HARDCORE L33T when it comes to SK!lzz and knowledge.
awww servers down again, ah wellatleast I know I had some graphics problems and the newest ati drivers are most likely shitting on me.
Whoever complains about this shop has either 1. never played GW 1 or 2. Has completely missed the point of GW franchise.
GW is a game of skill. I don't care if you have the best sword in the game, the differences between you and me will be meager to none. Besides, GW was always considered to be a group game, and you will rarely if never find yourself in 1 vs 1 situation with a guy that will 1 shot you. Actually, you'll never get 1 shotted or even 5 shotted by a single player.
Also, if I could choose any developer when it comes to who listens to community, it's ArenaNET. So, there's always a chance for a change the community asks for it.
Isn't all this against the NDA? Even hinting on the fact that you got into the beta? Not that I care if you get kicked out of beta for it or not but just thought I read some where about it.
Reminds me of Dofus' cash shop.
Ya'll need to quit complaining.
Reputation: 46NCSoft ain't stupid. It's atleast 20-30€($).
If you want raw math, you can calculate it yourself.
400 gems = 4.80€
12 slot bag x4 = 1200 gems = Let's say 12€ (you probably get discount for buying larger amount of gems).
Extra Bag slot = 400 gems.
12 slot bag + extra bag slot = 700 gems.
Bank tabs = 600 gems (probably better to buy char slots and use mules).
Inventory management is pain in the arse in GW2 so if I'm going to play the game I'm definately starting with tons of inventory space even if it costs me 20€.
The prices are still WIP and everything mentioned is based on the leaks. But nevertheless getting an optimized start for GW2 will require atleast 20€($) depending on the player of course. It's not mandatory but sure makes the game a lot more playable.
Storage slots in GW1 also made it "a lot more playable".
Guess how many I bought in the years a played?
Not a damn one, nor did I ever feel compelled to. The same can be said for many of the people I played with.
There's not a damn thing wrong with the cash shop.
You speak of Guild Wars 2 as if you have already played it in it's finished form, as if you are an expert on it.
You are not.
OH NO THEY WANT YOU PAY FOR S%IT. Oh please this is a B2P game they have to make money some how since once you buy the game it's free. If people don't like it they can go stare at dirt that's %100 free.
Could we just stop talking about the cash shop?![]()
