Default Who does the news here at onrpg?

Like a game or hate a game, both are good for creating discussion which should be the goal of the forum.

Two of your competitors have published this article and I was wondering why you haven't here?

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/entropia-universe-player-drops-2-5-million-on-virtual-land-deed/

Entropia Universe is in the news again, and yes, it's because of a huge real-money transaction initiated by one of the game's players. MindArk says that a single investor bought $2.5 million US worth of land lot deeds on Calypso, which is one of the game's oldest planetary zones. Entropia's citizenship system originally launched last December with almost 60,000 land deeds up for grabs. The mechanic allows for revenue sharing among citizens; the annual return on investments is hovering around 27%.

In a nutshell, the system allows players to amass weekly profits directly from the game after an initial investment of $100 for a single land deed. Investment opportunities are open to anyone with an Entropia avatar, and MinkArk also reports that the game features over one million registered accounts and over $400 million in annual user-to-user transactions.

Calypso set up the 'land deeds' to allow players to invest in and earn divideds back if they chose.

The total amount of land deeds comes to $6million usd.

Each deed sold for 1000ped or $100usd.

Each deed purchased so far has brought their owners a weekly dividend of 3-10ped. 0.30-1.00 usd. (thats weekly, so 1.20 - 4.00 usd monthly on a $100 investment)

The exact amount paid each week is 1/4 of the profits from the Planet Calypso which is just one of the Planets within the Entropia Universe.

Here is the history of dividends to date:

Counting an average of 5ped per week per share (the actual average is a little higher than that)

    2.5million usd = 25,000 deeds = 125,000ped = $12,500usd per week = $50,000usd per month = $650,000usd per year.

I would say thats a comfortable amount to live off of per year, even for (small time) millionair.

I've been playing (not investing) in the game for 4yrs now, by playing carefuly I have managed to withdraw as much as I have deposited while still building up my ingame assets.

I'm playing a game I enjoy, and it's not costing me anything. In my mind thats better than any other games of this quality out there.

Original cost of CLDs were 1000ped each, I imagine by next week they will be a bit higher, possibly in the 1100 to 1200 range (not sure) and after a few months we will see what the market trends have established for their true value.

Wish I had a bunch on me to sell next week :P

meh, looks like crud to me.

plus i dont like the idea of game mods owning all of your property. if we cant trust bankers what makes it ok to leave your stuff in the hands of a games company lol.

just look at all the corruption going on in second life.

    nah, looks rubbish to me.

but if it makes you happy....
