Default Who does the news here at onrpg?

Like a game or hate a game, both are good for creating discussion which should be the goal of the forum.

Two of your competitors have published this article and I was wondering why you haven't here?

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/entropia-universe-player-drops-2-5-million-on-virtual-land-deed/

Entropia Universe is in the news again, and yes, it's because of a huge real-money transaction initiated by one of the game's players. MindArk says that a single investor bought $2.5 million US worth of land lot deeds on Calypso, which is one of the game's oldest planetary zones. Entropia's citizenship system originally launched last December with almost 60,000 land deeds up for grabs. The mechanic allows for revenue sharing among citizens; the annual return on investments is hovering around 27%.

In a nutshell, the system allows players to amass weekly profits directly from the game after an initial investment of $100 for a single land deed. Investment opportunities are open to anyone with an Entropia avatar, and MinkArk also reports that the game features over one million registered accounts and over $400 million in annual user-to-user transactions.

Calypso set up the 'land deeds' to allow players to invest in and earn divideds back if they chose.

The total amount of land deeds comes to $6million usd.

Each deed sold for 1000ped or $100usd.

Each deed purchased so far has brought their owners a weekly dividend of 3-10ped. 0.30-1.00 usd. (thats weekly, so 1.20 - 4.00 usd monthly on a $100 investment)

The exact amount paid each week is 1/4 of the profits from the Planet Calypso which is just one of the Planets within the Entropia Universe.

Here is the history of dividends to date:

    http://www.entropiaplanets.com/wiki/Calypso_Land_Deed

Counting an average of 5ped per week per share (the actual average is a little higher than that)

    2.5million usd = 25,000 deeds = 125,000ped = $12,500usd per week = $50,000usd per month = $650,000usd per year.

I would say thats a comfortable amount to live off of per year, even for (small time) millionair.

I've been playing (not investing) in the game for 4yrs now, by playing carefuly I have managed to withdraw as much as I have deposited while still building up my ingame assets.

I'm playing a game I enjoy, and it's not costing me anything. In my mind thats better than any other games of this quality out there.

Original cost of CLDs were 1000ped each, I imagine by next week they will be a bit higher, possibly in the 1100 to 1200 range (not sure) and after a few months we will see what the market trends have established for their true value.

Wish I had a bunch on me to sell next week :P

meh, looks like crud to me.

plus i dont like the idea of game mods owning all of your property. if we cant trust bankers what makes it ok to leave your stuff in the hands of a games company lol.

just look at all the corruption going on in second life.

    nah, looks rubbish to me.

but if it makes you happy....

I guess I am curious what your policy is on members posting such things or 'news' when your current feeds don't supply them.
It is a game I really enjoy and do follow closely.
It's also something that I know interests a few of your less vocal readers/members because of pms received from them in the past.

Because I am so interested in this, and the discussions from it, I would like to be able to post when new content is released, and when there are big events and things in the 'news' about the game I play.

I have been pretty careful here because I don't really know your rules.
People/trolls were upset in the past when I posted a thread within a few weeks or months of someone else posting something else unrelated about the same game.

Just because two threads include the words 'Entropia Universe' does not mean that they are about the same thing, or even about the same company.

Just curious what your policies are, thanks.

I'm confused... are they owners? mods? or your pet trolls?
I really haven't seen any authority in the months I've been here so not really sure.

Ive been here a while, the trolls don't bother me much. (they usually prove my points with their own stupidity) (an intelligent troll is actually fun to match wits with, but I haven't met any here yet)

On the other hand, if they are mods, then is that the sort of behavior you wish to promote? (all caps, 1337 speak, and judging without knowledge or research, etc....)

While I did post what I thought was missing here, the point of my thread is asking how the news is brought or selected, and what I can do to help bring the content that I would like to see here as a player and reader.

The other questions I guess would be just who are the owners and mods here, and how do I distinguish them from the clientele?

Thanks for taking the time to answer, you got most of it in your response above.

lol narfi, i still think you work for entropia universe
but if thats not the case i think its nice to see someone around who sticks to a single game for so long.
note that about 60% here are kids with no credit cards. 35% are poor bums who play f2p games for 1 week or pirate their shit, and 5% do have a solid income and might be interested in a p2p game. so i dont think many people will go for this game
(these percentages are based on absolutely nothing)

    Nope, never worked for them.
I did receive a booth on Rocktropia as recognition for my energy helping new players there my first year there.
I have toyed with ideas and had fun discussing potential Planet Partner (franchise planet) creation/ownership. but that's all just been fun mental exercises, none of us have the money or contacts to make it a reality. (yet)

The biggest issue I would have with being/becoming an employee is giving up my avatar and virtual life as it is now. I have made a ton of friends and lead a good society, this is what I enjoy.

I think your ratios are probably pretty accurate of your posting member base, or high post count userbase.
I do not think it is accurate of your reader base.
I think you have a much more mature base of people who browse the conversations here without posting.

    Cool thanks.

Is there any tie between the forum and your articles?
I am accustommed to articles and news being tied to the main forum of a site which not only encourages more discussion by the users, but generates feedback for the authors as well.

I have to admit I normally only hit 'New Posts' here which kind of leaves any of the news and articles hidden from my view.

A thread that was auto-generated each time an article was published would help a lot IMO. (same w/ the news articles)

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I appreciate it.

We already published this before it even happened. That's why you haven't seen it yet, because when we published it before it happened it changed the Destiny-Time Protocols in our Reality Data Matrix NavPoint System Grid™, and so we had to retract the article 3.04 micro-nanoseconds after we published it since it was no longer accurate.

Also, I have no idea what goes on in the Journalism department so listen to Bryan, not me.

No tie at the moment, but that's a good idea and your suggestion has been taken into consideration.
