Still under development and requires support.

Ensemble Online is the world's first true MMORTS. What we mean by that is it's the first game which allows you to tactically control territory, harvest resources, and build buildings anywhere on an expansive, real-time, never-ending map. No limiting where you build, no text-based battles, no losing your progress when you log off (you better build some towers, bro, or your town will be gone by morning). This is RTS in the MMO-iest sense of the acronym.

    Tabletop Dungeons & Dragons
Mario (or whatever came before it)
    Doom
... And after that my intuition gets blurry since there's too many hundreds of retail games released in the 90s. Masters of Orion?

And whichever of the several thousand offspring of those games the developers of <insert 'unique' game here> have played are what inspired their game. That's just the path I took through history, but everywhere you get new games which had no direct connection to a previous game yet use similar mechanics... So it doesn't matter what you consider the original because no-one can even tell you which was 'more' original... I just listed some of the old games which were most definitely inspired by something else. But since they're made further-back it means that more game developers were influenced by the descendants of that game. Even if a combat system or an economic system or a loot-system or part of the interface is not copied from anything else, there are always a few or more games which have the Exact Same system. To extremely exaggerate my point - every line of code starts with a 1 or a 0. So the way I see "cliché" occurring in the gaming industry is - "oh, it's another stupid copy of <another game>'s system". Doesn't mean that the two games are related. It just means that if I've played the first then I've already gotten enough experience to know about the second.

It's not a bad thing. Firefall was ****ing AWESOME even though it copies practically everything, it does it with style meshing a gamer's objectives together quite nicely by creating interdependencies between loot tables, PvE, thumper missions, gear, and crafting... My point is that I get annoyed when someone uses the word, "unique" or, "the only <...> game". You lost that Right the second you picked a genre.

    Hey All,

I'm one of the developers on Ensemble. I saw the post and just wanted to hop on here and say thanks to darknight for helping us get the word out. Whenever we see people we don't know talking about the game, we're excited.

I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions about the game or give some insight into what we're trying to do with Ensemble.

I know the game might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if the idea does interest you, consider telling your friends. Being an indie, every bit of word-of-mouth support helps us tremendously. We're currently gearing up to transition to Beta, so don't forget to direct them to our Kickstarter which we started to fund Beta!
