Default How many of you get your gaming news from places like Reddit?

Im curious to know where you hear most of your gaming news. I'm not talking just F2P but in general.

Do you or have you visited this site for news in the last 6 months? If so what is your opinion on our content now vs the old team's content.

For reference, outside of PR releases (which are usually media site specific) I get gaming news mainly from Reddit and occasionally Kotaku/Youtube.

    Reddit and word of mouth.

Unfortunately, reddit is a cesspit of misogynistic and racist **** apologists, if you excuse my overly polite way of phrasing that.

But yeah, their coverage of games is really good.

Awesome thread. A lot of forum goers have been here Eons longer than us admins. I'd love to hear the difference in coverage between then and now.

I use Pulse on my phone to get gaming news, I just subscribe to pretty much any gaming site and wait for the news to roll in.
    I visit Gamebreaker.tv alot though.

for general gaming news i don't check anywhere people usually just link me shit throughout the day on steam and in mumble, things im really interested in i bookmark a lot of the "main" pages related to that game and check them every few hours.

the way things happen right now im usually aware of news within like an hour of it being posted, higher caliber/hyped games like D3 and GW2 people will usually link me like within 5 minutes after something releases, i also check reddit here and there on my phone but i don't look at it for news, i look at it for general BS.

I personally didn't know about Reddit until I saw mention of it on the GW2guru website and even then I don't browse, I get most of my gaming news from these forums or sites like IGN and gametrailers.com

    Google.

    Im not even kidding.

    That has two reasons
    - Mainstream titles are getting so much marketing exposure on the web that its painful. Basically once you have watched a trailer you either dont have to play the game anymore or you even will be dissapointed because you can see that the spent more time and talent on some 3 minute of footage over 3 hours of gameplay.
    - Small titles usually arent very innovative in their selling edge, because they are usually built around a simple easily recognisable feature (aside from few games, which pop up on the rader through the buzz they make and create loads of offspring). That means that you only have to memorize what the newest indie fad is and you can let google do the work with a little foo.

I avoid marketing, trailers and reviews and focus on two things:
Screenshots and the question if I will be able test-drive.

    Mainly it works this way;
I wanto to play a scify rpg: I go seek something out.
I dont want to play a zombie themed text adventure/cardgame/etc; I leave it be.

The main reason I come here are the Mmo screenshots.

Also I personally dont use reddit.

    1) What's.....a Reddit?

    2) I get my MMO stuff from here, 90% or so.

    3) Can't compare the new vs old content because I've honestly never even read any of the articles. I just glare at the title and move on to Event section to check for keys few times a week.

    4) I get my news from Youtube I guess. Subscribed to so many gaming channels and partially gaming channels I get all I need right there. Sometimes I just stumble upon something myself browsing Giantbomb and Kotaku.

Steamgifts forum and here and twitter and google+.

By here i mean the forums, not the actual main site.
Don't know about content, only know that the whole main site interface has never been attractive to me since the beginning of time.

Thanks for the feedback. Trying to put in a bit more research into OnRPG's past to get a feel for how it has reached this point and what has worked. (Glad I learned about the 2009 OnRPG Community Awards. And I thought our 2011 was disastrous >_<)

Speaking of which, for those that don't know, Mepath has retired from our admin team. He was head programmer for OnRPG since December 2010. We'll be using these popular news sites as examples for what kind of functionality OnRPG needs to incorporate, both on the forums and homepage.

Bowen will be taking over from now on for programming related activities. I'll see if I can pull him off the code for a minute to introduce himself before the end of the day.

I used to use GI back in the day. Mostly just use Gamefaqs (I think I've been using them since 03') but also Facebook, here and word of mouth nowadays.

One thing I like about gamefaqs is the way that they handle information. They have lists for most of the upcoming games for each platform as well as for each region along with with expected release dates. Every game has it's own main page with individual sections of different kinds of information available (screenshots, videos, faqs, reviews, cheats, credits, etc.) and the layout is great. Because each game has it's own forum, when you run searches for specific information, you get threads only related to that particular game. It's just the small stuff that keeps me using it. They don't have everything but what they do have they display and keep track of it pretty well, which I like.

Reddit just looks a mess to be honest. I don't like using it.
