So, I was in the smoke shop recently buying something cheap that I could carry around during the summer and not have worry about. I got into a lengthy talk with the lady who was running the store, and talked about various east coast glassblowers. Turns out we both post on a few of the same forums, and after our talk, she offered me a job on the spot.

I have a pretty crappy at home job right now. And I would love nothing more than to work in a smoke shop all day. However, they sell that stupid synthetic crap and the "bath salts" we're all hearing about lately.

I really don't have a problem with people who seek out the stuff and buy it and abuse it and kill themselves. That is their business. But I don't think I could justify selling poison all day long. A number of people have been in the news locally for killing themselves, getting killed by cops, hitting their children, etc. because they're abusing these chemicals. I couldn't sleep at night if I knew the guy who went home and died later that night had just bought that shit from me.

I had to turn her down, and I told her why. There are even protesters out front of the shop. There are PLENTY of smoke shops I know of that completely refuse to be involved in that stuff, but none of them are nearby. The one I got offered the job at is a chain and has mostly taken over the local market.

It just really really sucks, because I know I'd really love that job.
