APB was released in June of 2010 and was shut down on September 16, 2010. The game had potential it had customization, gameplay, and everything u can think of. i know y'all hated the game but the people look at the facts there wasn't a whole lot of player base but this was a 100Million dollar project it should have gone F2P, or B2P not P2P cause they were using the UDK - Unreal Development Kit - Epic Games there license they used was the Royalty bearings which u had to pay a 25% revenue each month. This game took 5 years to create from scratch and it took realtime worlds and APB down with it which means Crackdown2 will be no more. i hope APB will be bought and be used or fix the issues. if i created this story wrong please correct me. RTWs had crackdown 1 which was a successful game but APB wasnt but it is a fun game so RIP apb and farewell.
and also with the Royalty bearings license with the developers they had to ay. 100million dollars wasnt enough and thats y they had to Plug the game from the internet
There's already a few APB threads going on, most with the information you just stated.
APB was a decent game for what it was, but they marketed and advertised as more than that throughout the development cycle until close to release. Ahhh, if you want to read through all that bad enough, you can go read my replies in the other APB threads.
Any studio that uses a 3rd Party Engine pays royalties. Royalties are what keeps the world turning. That said, 100 million over 5 years development for a game trying to break into the "MMO" genre is a relatively small budget compared to titles like Age of Conan, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and so on.
There was a lot contributing to what happened, but if it makes you feel any better, the day they announced they were closing the game down they also stated there was an entity interested in purchasing their projects, APB included. There still might be hope.
