Top ten free MMORPGs you think everyone should try
This isnt a top ten MMO games list. It is a list I want people to make of the ten free mmorpg games you think everyone should try at least once! I think this will be a pretty good thread for people new to MMOs, and might help people rediscover classics. Preferably give reasoning in your top ten?
10. Sword 2
This game is very unique, and offers a whole new take on mmorpg combat. Unfortunately, the game itself isnt amazing and I don't play it but it was fun whilst it lasted.
9. Legend of Edda
Having recently entered open beta, I think this game represents a really classic build of MMORPG. Decent customisation, good range of classes and old-style combat. It even looks best zoomed out, which reminds me of old top-down rpg games.
8. WonderKing
Similar to a game higher up on this list, WonderKing to me shows a really cartoony and cute level of graphics and even gameplay. A fun game with real-time combat and a unique look.
7. Dream Of Mirror Online
This game is a real classic. Decent customisation and average combat, but such a good range of classes and amount of content. The only bad part about this game is the lack of new players.
6. Ragnarok Online/Secret of the Solstice
It is really your choice of preference on this. Ragnarok is more classic, more classes, more players and more content. But it has the worst quest system imaginable. So personally I prefer a newer similar game, Secret of the Solstice. Both games have anime graphics and fun progression.
5. Lunia
A game with a huge range of classes and completely real-time combat... Quests galore and fun partying. The main downsides of this game are a low level of difficulty and I hear a lot of people have lag, though I never lagged.
4. Runes Of Magic
This is THE WoW clone. Unfortunately, I loathe the game. I can't pinpoint it but I honestly can't play it for longer than thirty minutes. Not my game, but the closest to WoW you'll get without paying for the actual game.
3. Atlantica Online
Just try this game. You really should. Amazing content, unique class choice and most importantly unique combat! It has a turn-bases system like old rpgs but with the ability to build your own unique team. That alone gives the game amazing PvP based on strategy.
2. Runescape
Another one that every MMO fan should try. Runescape shines as it runs on a browser, has decent graphics and the best range of skills imaginable in a fantasy game. The free version is a little limited but playable for a long time. Plus, the subscription fee is quite cheap.
1. Maplestory
The success story of the free MMORPG. Maplestory boasts so so many players every day and the reasons show. Fun, accessible combat with cute graphics and one of the best range of classes purely because the choice is consistently added to. With the original four (now five) class choices, another five variants on those with different rates of exp/level cap, a unique hero class and another three classes on the way, maplestory offers unbelievable content and variety.
1. 9Dragons.
This is a great game with a very unique and interesting skill system. Also the diversity of races (clans) and classes makes a very good game.
2. Atlantica Online
It's just so unique and I love the turn based system.
3. Dynasty Warriors Online
Massive Hack 'n Slash is just win.
4. Dragonica (Dragon Saga)
You gotta love some hack 'n slash whenever you're bored.
5. Battle of the Immortals
With a lot of daily events, fast leveling and a great story-line makes it a great try-before-you-die game.
6. Metin2
This game has a very close community and nobody is ever too lazy to help you out.
7. Dream Of Mirror Online
Provides endless fun with a nearly infinite amount of combinations of classes and equipment.
8. Runescape
Simply by far the best browser game out there. Perfect for people with low-spec computers.
9. Perfect World
It's a simply beautiful game with great graphics, skills, a lot of instances and a massive world map.
10. 12Sky2
This is a very nice game heavily based on PvP at higher levels. The Battlegrounds also make a great add-on.
