I'm 100% against P2W games! -.-'
P2P/B2P > P2W
After GW2 every game goes B2P.
Reputation: 10why did LoTRO and DDO went f2p? because they were dying
i believe that Blizzard with hold the MMO market for another 10 years and SWTOR wont be able to break trough
Global Agenda just got f2p, so many games are accepting this pattern, it probably has something to it
besides i dont have the money (and even if i had them i wouldnt give them) to pay for subscription games, does this mean i cant play them? no, because the games will become f2p eventually one after another
Eve - 2003
today- 2011
sub= yes
playerbase= 50k
growing= yes
trick of the trade?= free updates and expansions;listening to community
Subscription fees can affect the playerbase of an MMO, but I think the main contributing factor is how the company handles the game and its community. Look at EVE, they were released in '03 and I heard their playerbase has continually grown since. Even so, I'm still a fan of F2P MMO's :P
I don't think WoW is a community of 13mil kids and the game isn't ruined. The forums are the cesspool of most games so going on them or watching trade chat isn't showing you the majority of the community either.
LOTRO went free to play because the only people who would pay for it were LOTR fans. Since they are not fully F2P, they still have good support.. or maybe they don't but since I'm a VIP member they always answers my questions super fast - in a sense that it is P2P so everything is better.
P2P games have much better support attached to them and staff that actually give a hoot about you because you are a paying subscriber. If I ever had a problem on WoW, I could call Blizzard for free and they were more than happy to help me and were very nice on the phone and would joke around too. If I ever had a problem on Aion, I could call NCSoft and talk to them, although they have only a small footprint in America so their hold times were stupidly long.
What would happen if I called PWE and asked to speak with someone about an issue I was having in game? lol. Their support is pretty much non-existent anyways unless you need to speak will billing, which is email only.

Reputation: 6Wait, but wasn't SWG already dead? I mean, I know the game's servers are still up and running, but you know. The player base is very low, the game is screwed up and no longer gets publicity.
Also, you could argue, that like living things, ALL MMOs reach a point in which they are slowly dying. Just very, very slowly.

I love F2P games! Played many of them! Right now League of Legends is one of my favorites. I think it's a good idea play a game for free for as long as you feel comfortable to, and support the game you love by purchasing optional content. I don't see anything wrong with that as much as I don't see horns in a horse's head.
If people prefer P2P or B2P or "whatever2P" game, that's OK. I like options that's what I say. If I like a game I support it either by purchasing it or by recommending it to my friends. I feel a little sad when I recommend a game for people to try it and someone say the game s**ks. People have different tastes, what is good for my taste can be bad for others.
The point is I like the ascending free to play model for games. It suits perfectly for me and it is easier to recommend a game to a friend this way. If he like the game, he can purchase extra content to support the developers, but if the game is not good, simply uninstall it, and you don't lose any money in the process.
Oh, and before I forget: I love MMOHUT! The site is great the YouTube channel is awesome and I don't see the logic behind stating "P2P > F2P" in a website clearly stated as a "Free Online MMORPG and MMO Games". Just as means of analogy it's like promoting atheism in a church!lol
Reputation: 10My favorite feature of LOTRO was Monster Play. I haven't played the game in awhile though.
Reputation: 10good games will succeed under f2p...terrible games still have a chance but will probably fail. the end result is f2p can do well for sure if the game is half way decent.
