I won't say WoW's horrible. I've always kinda wondered why people always try to antagonize WoW.
As for FFXIV, I've heard it sucks terribly, but the fact that it's F2P now makes me curious to try it just to see how bad it is instead of wasting a decent 20-60 dollars on it or whatever amount of money it costs.
