Today I feel like talking about the issues with the current MMORPGs, mainly because I'm tired of seeing MMORPG review games, which at first look, look really bad, too generic or repetitive. Rare is the company that tries to take it a step further to make a good MMORPG, even more rare is the Western Company that tries to even make a MMORPG, call me racist but I'm really bored of all the Asian MMORPGs - Korean and Chinese mainly, because they all look and feel the same in my computer. And if they don't feel the same in terms of Gameplay, they all have the same grindy feature.
At this very moment I'm uninstalling some games I don't play anymore. And it really bothers me how all of them look alike in some negative way, they're either too grindy, the interface sucks, there's no creativity in the lore/classes (Mage, Warrior, Cleric - Like I've never heard of those a thousand times) or worst of all - Anime. Dum Dum Dum DUMMMMMMM. I don't understand the need for companies to make a game if they're not gonna make it the very least enjoyable. Here's a list of things I hate in games: (In no particular order)
1 - Anime: I just don't like it, as a growing person looking for a hobby game to play, I can't stand being bombarded by Anime-looking games. WHY Asia, WHY? I can see why some people like it, but most of them are under 14 years old* and probably won't bring you any income. Which brings me to another topic
2 - Cash Shop Imbalance: I understand perfectly why you'd want to get money from your game, but do you really have to make so many sales and bring so many overpowered items to your cash shops? Don't you see that kills the game and only brings negative reputation?
3 - Lack of updates: If you still have 4 classes for over 3 years: YOR DOIN IT RONG!!!!!11!!!! (Looking at you, Fiesta) Players enjoy updates, and everytime you make a new class or a new update, it's great advertisement, people will go: ooooo new! Shineh! and maybe try the game.
4 - Generic Fantasy Theme: I understand the physics of Fantasy back from when I was playing FF7 - Swords, Black Magic and White Magic, that's all that really matters. Well, as much as I like to raise hell with a Fire, Fireball, Fire Bolt, Firewall; Heal party members with the always creative "Heal"; or kill a damned... Mouse for no reason at all with a big ass sword, we need change! There has to be innovation and forward movement, not being stuck in the 90's.
5 - Generic Questing System: "Kill 20 Snakes and come back and I'll give ya experience" - Sound familiar? Too familiar. Everyone complains about this, it's an uncreative, lazy, leveling system and it's called Grinding if done repeatedly in a back and forth way.
6 - Bad Community: I love a good community, I love making a PuG and go "Heya " and get a "Hi " back. I love asking for advice in a new game and get 50 responses. I love not having to deal with PvP drama "LOLZ U SO WEAK U NUB" /facepalm. Probably the worst thing in a game is a bad community.
Well, I guess that's all I can think of right now. Tell me what you hate most in the current MMORPGs.
