Idk i have seen like 3-5 games do this in years and those were some of the less popular games probably made by indie studios who care about more then money lol, i guess it doesn't bring in a lot of people or it would be a lot more popular. Would be interesting to see this happen on a very hyped game like Guild Wars not some game that barely got advertised, it might have a surprising effect but we will never know unless big companies start caring lol.

This would be a great concept.. but we must remember that Devs and Publishers are companies that exist to bring profits.
As much as the DEVs want to make a game with creative and innovative elements.. if the Publishers doesnt see a way to profit on that .. it wont happen. Sad but true.

I loved the Humble Indie Bundle... the pay what you want style charity donation and you get good quality indie games for participating.. we need more of this style of charity methods from bigger companies like EA, Ubisoft...!

Maybe another way could be to make tournaments which donations gathered would go to charities... instead of sponsors of the teams xD

As an avid MMO enthusiast, I will add my two cents into this, I would love to play a game that had a type of system such as this, it would make playing more meaningful for me, but at the same time, if the game is no good or not fun for me, this won't keep me playing it. I don't usually stick to games for long, the game that I've spent the most time and money on at the moment is League of Legends, other games really don't have the intense PvP feel that I'm looking for. If League would impliment this type of thing into their system, I wouldn't feel so guilty about spending my money on a free game, but it sure won't happen with Tencent sucking in the profits. Anyways back on topic, if the game has good PvP and a donations system in place like this, I sure as hell would play, but if it doesn't meet my MMO standards the donation system would mean nothing to me

I love your ideas about PvP tournaments or special events that focus on charitable fund-raising. It would be the MMO equivalent of a Walk-for-Life Marathon. Actually, that gives me a funny idea... When I was in college, the student union held annual Dance-a-Thon fund raisers. Since most MMORPGs have a Dance emote that players shamelessly overuse, why not hold an online pledge event to see how many players you can get to dance in one town square?! While seeing a large group of characters dancing together usually makes me wish for a *****-Slap emote, this might actually be an exception.

On second thought, an event like this would likely be dubbed a Lag-a-Thon... oh well.

Seems like it should be an editorial o.O
And how did you get from PVP to B2P games over P2P?

I really admire your idea, however you're not the first one. Look at this and this. Really thoughtful idea: company earns money, player gets a mount that he would probably buy anyway, and on top of that part of it gets to charity organizations.

It seems good, but the thing is - we're not told about the successes of these actions, because they're not large enough. Righ here it's due to the fact that RoM is a money sink(and these mounts might be too expensive for lots of ppl), and Frogster is a lazy company with very little(from what I know) respect among the players.

Furthermore, I agree with DevastatorX - I won't pay for an uninteresting game, even if it's producers have honest intentions.

So.. it's up to big and respected devs and publishers to spread this idea around.

That's a good point, icewizard. While I doubt players would start regarding the charitable donations as taxation or something negative to be avoided, their interest in those efforts may still wane over time, thus rendering the whole campaign less meaningful. Perhaps it would be good to implement a community calendar, where each month, the developer showcases a different charity, such as "This May is Breast Cancer Awareness month! Buy the May-exclusive Pink Brazier undergarment, and 25% of profits will be donated for Breast Cancer Awareness!" Everyone has their soft spots. I knew a girl my age who died from breast cancer, and there are many others who have a specific interest in one campaign versus another for personal reasons. If you keep mixing it up, you have a better chance of keeping players inetersted.
