Tabletop D&D?

Anyone here play tabletop D&D? I'm mostly just curious since this forum is mainly about role-playing games and there wasn't any previous discussion about it. I myself have always wanted to play it but none of my friends have any interest in playing so finding people to to play with is quite difficult. Anyways what are your guys' opinions/experiences with the game? Also if anyone who does play have any advice for a new player like me regarding how to get into it and find a group that'd be greatly appreciated!

I prefer playing simplified versions of Pen&Paper RPGs over the internet.
In real life I hardly know anyone I could play with so I just do it on the internet, but the D&D ruleset is too complex for net play (one turn takes too long), so I use simplified rules.
