1. Be one of more succesful companies of your time with few big titles
2. Make mmo of said title that doesn't suck
3. Instantly get millions of players
4. Advertise on TV and big websites and get even more players
5. Don't f*ck with your game if there is nothing wrong with it
6. Receieve moneys
It's pretty simple yet most mmos manage to fudge it up. Just look at swtor, it got points 1 3 4; very popular series, game was well advertised, tons of people were hyped up but it failed point 2, if you just replace the scifi settings with fantasy it's just like any other other mmo and soon people realised it and game flomped. Another example is Exteel, this one failed on points 1 and 4 so a good game went unnoticed and they shut it down eventualy cause of low playerbase. Also point 5 is a bane of many, like Allods, game went from omgwtf are you guys doing patch to uninstall me patch which caused like 75% of game population (not even exaggerating) to quit it, sure they fixed it now and it's one of the best free games atm but the damage was done.
