Default When the Levies Broke (one year later)

One year later, after the tragady struck our country.

I recently watched a documentary on New Orleans after Katrina done by Spike Lee titled "When the Levies Broke", and I think it is a required viewing by every single American, be them Conservative, Libral, God fearing or non-god believing.
This documentary isn't anything like what Michle Moore does. Not once do you actully hear Spike Lee talk. The whole documentary is of people that were one way or another involved in this.
Everyone from those that survived the flooding, to the Mayor, to the people that are cleaning up and re-building the levies. They all get thier part to say, and there are some really scary things that I learned about this which I never knew before.

First, Katrina never hit New Orleans directly. New Orleans was hit with catagory 3 winds, and when the Levies broke, it was down to catagory 1.
There was no catagory 5 Hurricane that hit New Orleans. It just passed by it.
Also, most people think that the claims that the goverment blew up the levies is just compleat bullshit, ect. ect. Now, I agree with you, but there is a very good reason for people to think this.
Did you know that TWICE in New Orlean's history the levies were blown up? And it happened during storms, where had the levies not been blown, the rich neighboor hoods on the other-side would have been flooded. The goverment NEVER did any kind of investigation into this.
So, right off the bat, these people have more then enough reason to think that the levies were blown. I mean, it's happened twice before, a third time isn't hard to believe.

Another thing that I learned which REALLY scared me is that a few days after the hurrican, people were going to cross the Missisipi bridge because there was no flooding there, there was fresh water, ect. YOu know what they met? They met an army of cops holding them at gun-point, forcing them to turn around. Why? Well, I can't tell you exactly why, cause a reason wasn't given, but I know one thing. At the end of that bridge was the rich neigborhoods.

When the armies first came into New Orleans(one week after the flooding), they held everyone at gun-point. And I mean EVERYONE. It wasn't until a General came in and set them straight did anything actully start happening. And then, when the buses came in, they did things like seperate children from thier parents! And I don't mean seperatinga 13 year old from his mom and dad. They took 2 and three year olds and put them on a different bus from thier parents, and the two went into two compleatly different areas of the country.

One year later, only 20% of the Katrina Aid has been paid. Less then 10% of the debree has been cleaned up. Less then 10 percent of New Orleans has electricity, water, and/or plumbing.

And this is ONE WHOLE YEAR LATER.

And thats just the start of it.

People need to see this film. They need to see what happened, and what hasn't happened.

Watch it. Watch it for your country, for the people that died because of this.
