When you make eye contact with strangers walking by do you smile?
I noticed when I am walking around my school campus and accidentally make eye contact with a stranger either walking by or what not that they tend to smile. I don't know if really only Americans do it or if our if this mannerism is ingrained to our culture but I like it.
I heard that in Asian countries, smiling at a stranger is considered strange. Anyone know why this is?

I try to either smile, nod my head or say hello. It's fairly normal to do that around here from what I've noticed.

Yes. Also, if they're within my neighborhood while I'm driving or walking, there's always a wave.
Might just be a southern hospitality thing, but when I moved here it was a surprise having random people be friendly to me (cookies from the neighbors the day after moving). Didn't see a lot of friendly gestures just for the sake of being friendly back in Cali.

I walk with my head up, unless im looking at my phone. Eye contact is just what it is, eye contact. Most people will smile, or do nothing. I dont see what the problem here is. I've always been taught to look folk in the eyes.
It gets awkward though, if you're in a class room, and you make eye contact with like a girl or something, and then you look back, and they look back, and now they think you're looking at them..lol.

My smile is so adorable they have no choice but to smile back. You just have to do the thing where you scrunch your nose a little bit, but you have to do it in a way that it doesn't look like you're talking to a baby. Took months of being the best Circle K employee ever to master.
