    Default Anyone noticing this trend?

MMO's nowadays are really getting less creative and more repetitive.

It's either yet another click to kill, grinding MMO, or a join the lobby, kill everything type of game.

Point is, MMO development is taking a turn for the worst. What happened to unique, open world games?

Games like EvE online and Face of Mankind, those games are unique. FoM has a lower player base, but it's unique, which is what makes it fun.

Hopefully in the future, more MMO developers will attempt to make their game unique from all the others.

I totaly agree with u on that but problem is why they do all this repetitive same kind of games is they see them as money cows and want to milk it to the death honestly I dont think they care about making there game unique more than they care about cash cash cash cash and nothing else.

Tera has unique combat system but the rest is boring generic
GW2 has a kind of unique questing, but the rest has been hard casualized (same skills, no solid roles, zergwars, button smashing)
These are the 2 who i waited for, which came out this year. Both did a great job in 1 aspect, but did a steaming shit on all others.
So i must agree with you

I hope archeage/b&s will be better and every other good looking mmorpg

Just noticing? This shit been goin on for years now. Its actually so bad to the point I've almost given up on gaming.
Developers and Big names are too afraid to take risks.. They instead just hop on the cash cow. Look at Bioware, and Bethesda..

I don't like it as much as you do. Remember now a days MMO's are run by the suits and for them repetitive is safe and safe guarantees income.

not really a mmorpg but. if you want something really GOOD and unique, something hard boiled that beats the shit out of every other coop game ever created go play dark souls 24th of august on pc. you might gonna need a controller though i dunno how they mapped the keys for keyboard but i cant imagine playing this without controller. u can coop in it and see ghosts of other people who play this game and click on bloodstains to see how they died or write messages who others can read. these aspect give it a little mmo feeling. but it got allot more then that, tons of sick bosses to battle and a beautifull yet creepy world to explore.
i played this for playstation 3 this year and i can say its been the best game i have played this and maybe last year too next to dragons dogma.

edit: sort of a spoiler so be warned, but this was one of my favorite boss fights

I'm still waiting for a online Dungeon Keeper 2 with pvp and pve content. So much potential in that genre. Oh well...I pretty much thought the game out. But It will probably never happen.

The thing is that while people seems to want a new and unique experience, the majority still feels more comfortable playing what they know (even if it's getting extremely generic and repetitive). If the genre were to go in a somewhat different direction, it would need games that will help the transition into that direction, namely stuff like GW2, TERA, etc, and that's probably what's happening right now. Who knows, we might see MMORPG's going in a competely different route in the next four years compared to what we have today :P

Not with just mmos, now were seeing it on regular games as well, "want to do this in the game you spent $60 on already? Just give us X amount of $$$ to unlock". It's getting ridiculous with how much the game industry is turning into nothing more then a way to nickle and dime people out of everything. Between P2W cash shops, 'DLC', and other money making tactics along with some of the most unoriginal games every released, the industry is dieing. I use to be able to play to unlock more content now I pay $9.95
