    Windows 7's firewall does a pretty good job, I don't ever have any visitors. Occasionally I'll check, just to make sure. I use Avast and Malwarebytes. Not really an antivirus but very useful in manually finding and killing things is Hijackthis.

    If you have a legit copy of windows, grab MSE and Spybot S&D.
    If you don't have a legit copy, grab Eset NOD32 and Spybot S&D.

    My windows fell off a filthy pirate ship and MSE has given me no problems for the past year.

    The one good thing I got out of DeVry University: Tons of free Microsoft software, including Windows 7

    HijackThis is easily one of the best tools I have ever used when it comes to computer issues(especially with friends/family), it's great for removing any BHOs like toolbars instantly.
