Default Im worried to try out high gfx games cos they kill gfx cards

The last time I tried a high gfx game for its time (ie: neverwinter nights, a Nvidia GFMX400), the high gfx slowly overheated and killed my video card. It was a fanless card and I remember I was playing the game during the hot summer. Whenever the PC crashed, I would put a fan nex tot he video card and let it cool down, and even put ice water in front of the fan. But slowly the video card overheated and became completely unreliable. Anytime high gfx came on, the PC would lock.

I replaced the GFMX400 with a Radeon 9200SE and the PC worked fine.

Since that time, I nowadays avoid high gfx games. Maybe video cards today are engineered better, but somehow I doubt it. Playing second rank lower gfx games means my video card will probably survive forever (now a.. ATI HD4670 i think).

If you have to go as far as putting ice water next to the card then it's not the game's problem. Either your PC has been on to long (Mines on all the time with no problems) or your inside fan was not doing the job correctly. Is the GFX card the only new thing you got in your PC?
