    Default Problem with cooling

    Hello everyone!

I just wanted to ask a quick question about cooling for a gaming laptop; specifically the MSI GE60 (http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE60-0NC.html)

For a while, I've noticed that whenever I played demanding games such as Far Cry 3 or anything similar, the CPU would go up to a whooping 90ºC+ which is definitely not good for the laptop. I've been browsing around forums and people claim to get their laptop down to 60ºC or even lower when playing games on ultra high (i.e. Skyrim). I'm wondering how this is possible, because I'm assuming if I got a good notebook fan the temperature wouldn't drop significantly. Could it be that it's just really dusty inside or maybe there's something wrong with the fans?

I'm just a little concerned that if I continue gaming that I might potentially damage my laptop.

Thanks for the help! : ]

I'd like to see those claims, as without having a thick laptop that offers good airflow, this is not possible. You WILL hit at least 75C under load.

Here was the video. It's in the description. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyqxmBVQ3fs

I just realized he didn't mention anything about graphics, I must have mixed it up with the other videos. ><

BF3 ultra hitting 50-60C under load on Full HD is about right for standard desktop GPUs.

That particular laptop is also fairly thin. Meaning it doesn't have a big fan or big heatsink or possibly both therefore it overheats easily once it's under load.

I've found that if you replace the thermal paste that comes default and keep your vents clean you can keep your laptop pretty cool. The former does 2-4 degC and the other just stops your laptop from becoming a heat bomb. Also that video shows that they are using a laptop that automatically throttles the fan based on temperature. You could technically always have your fan going at 100% and keep your laptop cool but then it'd be incredibly noisy, just get a laptop pad or cooling mat instead.

Ugh I messed up. Blame staying up at 4AM in the morning. lol

I still dont believe a laptop CPU only hits 60C under high settings. Most laptop CPUs idle at around 55C so I still think he's bluffing a lot.

Mm.. in terms of thermal paste, I'm not exactly sure how to replace that and I don't want to attempt to try it myself since I don't want anything bad happening to my laptop.

As long as I keep my vents clean and have a laptop mat, I should be pretty good in terms of temperature, right? S:
