    Default So..My hardrive fried

Title. My hard drive fried on me last night while I was watching a movie. I had to go out and buy a new one but ALL my saves for skyrim, movies FF9 10 etc etc are all gone.

Oh and so is my IT Final I have been working on for a week which is due tomorrow.

    /rant

Anyone know how to retrieve data from it if possible?

well you can try put that hard drive 2nd port then access from window on your new hard drive to see it read it

or get a SATA/PATA/IDE Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter Cable to access from USB

What NeoJaz says. I'd rather use an HDD enclosure on USB3 though. I know you can get those for 25EUR around here while what NeoJaz recommends is about 18-ish from a quick google. You can even have a new external HDD should you buy that enclosure. lol

Either way, try running a linux distro like PartedMagic with the failed HDD hooked up to your system. If it does not detect there chances are you'll need special inaccessible hardware to read the HDD. The distro will run from an USB stick and RAM.

Also, school tasks ALWAYS go on stuff like Dropbox or Google Drive. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

Be careful though, while the track record for dropbox and google drive is exceptional, they clearly write in their user agreements that they are not liable for any lost data. I've never had a problem but knowing that that clause is important if you ever find yourself relying too much on cloud based services. I usually have 3 backups, 1 on HD, 1 one USB, and one cloud based (email or google drive).
