    Default Thinking of playing TERA

Hey guys, some friends and I are getting bored of WoW and we're thinking of picking up TERA. I know it's going F2P soon, but other than it's unique targeting system I don't really know much about the game's content. What I'm mainly curious about is what the PvP and endgame is like? The game's gotten pretty good reviews, but I haven't heard of why it didn't make much of a splash when released. Are there any inherent flaws I should know about? Bad controls, bugs, class imbalances, broken professions, etc.?

I find myself getting kinda bored with MMORPGs nowadays so I'm thinking for something kinda exciting. I've always found largescale PvP battles make a game a bit more engaging. TERA has something called Nexus Wars?

I would, but there are other discussions going on within it and if they're not related to my questions then it's more posts to sift through.

    endgame = BG's 15 and 3 man
    instance / heroic instance
grinding BAM's solo or duo (elite's for wow terms)
    guild v guild pvp
world pvp / gank / duel

Gear grindded from pvp / instance much like wow but with a cool combat system its good enough to hold you for a while much like WoW by the time we bore and grind the gear the next big game will be ready I am sure

Though you explained it in a horrible/uninteresting way. You should never compare games to WoW it's almost automatically less attractive.
But he's right, you reach end game you'll probably be addicted. It's a game to just hold me till B&S comes out

PvP: Depending on whether you play on the pvp server or the pve server you'll have to somewhat worry about being ganked by level 60 characters(Of course this won't full apply if you join the new pvp server(s) they are releasing for F2P). But you also have to be wary of the outlaw system. You won't have to worry about Battlegrounds or arenas because they are all endgame features but are serverwide so if you decide to play on a PvE server you may be put against people from the PvP server(s). Guild vs Guild on the other hand can be a blast but also a burden depending on what kind of guild declares against you and such.

Endgame: Other than Nexus and farming for the best tier items there's not too much to do but the events En Masse have been pretty good from what I've been told. There are proffessions and such that you can do on the side as well as crafting but you're not restricted to just one profession, so you can do all of them at any point in the game. In fact, if you gather any of the many resources you see while leveling the game rewards you with a random buff that lasts for around 15-30 minutes give or take.

Other Info: All of the professions are working as far as I know but you'll problaby pull out your hair from the frustration you'll get from enchanting your gear to +12. From what I recall you can generally get a good idea of how the classes can work when you make your character through a prologue they do for the main storyline, which gives you a small taste of what to expect but playing your class bumped up to level 20 and such. You'll start from your actual character afterwards though.

Anything else you need to know just toss me a PM or just let me know your IGN and I'll look for ya. I play on the MT mainly but sometimes get on CH on occasion. If you play on the EU on the other hand, well I'm sure theres EU players that can help you out. Also, most of the information for the game can be found reading the game guide found here.

From what I recall, they plan to keep character transfer systems (and all out-of-game services) up throughout the pay to play to free to play transition, so it's likely they'll allow it.

One of the reasons I stick to PVE-Only, or servers / games with PVE on channels, where PK is on others. (a la Ether Saga.) I played AIKA on a PVE server, only to find out it was PK everywhere between different factions / non-citizen vs. citizen. I killed a man (only because he was going to attack me anyway) with the pay 2 win Level 40 statted newbie cash shop armor, then immediately left an hour later, never touching it again.

3/4 of all the F2P people coming into the game will quit before they will even reach 60, I can tell you that.

You're still going to have those groups of 5 friends that will run around pking solo players. Happened at launch, will most likely happen again.

If you looked at those same thread about the people doing that you'll see just as many white knights who'll be jumping in and wrecking those groups.

The PvE-RP Realm is well, what you'd think it is, Roleplayers. It's the least populated server.

I'd say more people will stay this time around, more people actually anticipate this game. Plus there is a lot of socializing going on which makes everyone stay longer.

Doubt they'll keep the server transferring, or at least wait for a month or so. People who want to start new will start on the new servers. If they keep the transferring or there will always be relentless ganking.

I honestly never ever got ganked during my leveling. And when I was scared that I was, my guild that I conveniently found came and got rid of them for me. I honestly loved the PvP server, it makes for more fun times. brings people closer

did I just read about OP asking what end-game PvP and battlegrounds are like in Tera, then deciding to roll on a PvE-RP server?

    what....

but anyways, Tera is fun in the beginning~ but it gets old SUPER fast...the quests are your generic kill this, deliver that, gather this type quests that you see in every other mmo out there. there are SOME interactive quests but those are far and few between.

grinding for gear will always be present in any mmo...it's called an mmoRPG for a reason~ but Tera end-game grind is not as bad as say, Aion Online.

running the same end-game dungeons over and over to get that rare piece of gear can get tiring though...and coming from years and years of playing MMORPGs, this gets old for me fast.

Slayers are indeed OP when it comes to anything...they can solo anything and kill anyone if played right - meaning they have some skill at their disposal that can counter any class, and any situation (again, if played right) - but they are also one of the most squishest classes in the game.

I have a 60 Castanic Slayer (ofc...the cookie-cutter racial class) on Valley of Titans (one of the original servers) sitting around...debating whether i wanna come back to transfer to one of the new servers and help lowbies out or something...

You can still queue up for BGs on the RP server and still get match with people from all other servers, but yeah, if you truly want the best PVPers, all the GvG drama and epeen status, then PVP server is the way to go.

Slayers are getting hard nerfed with the upcoming 3v3 arena patch. All the glyphs that made them OP are now being replaced by mediocre ones at best. The real OP class is Lancer as most of their skills are getting a big increase in damage with the next patch (as if they don't do enough damage already....).

Honestly right now, the only grind that's there is to grind for gold if you want to get started and back running again. New players, as well as returning players (unless you have a full T13+9-12 set), won't even have a chance to land a spot in trying to do the dungeons that drops T14 gears. You can do NT and occasionally get lucky enough for it to drop your T13 PVP set so you can actually not die in BGs, but grinding for gold to buy the enigmatic T14s out there seems to be a better option right now.

More or less. Slayers, Warriors, and I think Sorc or Priest are all getting nerfed with the f2p patch.
