I've reached level 14 in every major profession (mining/hunting/manufacturing) and play the auction for about 10ped/hour. You will always lose money. But it has the strongest economy of any game I've played, and a few players even make profits.

You want strongest economy? Play Second Life... I made thousands of real dollars just by selling a cosmetic suit of futuristic armor that took pretty much nothing for me to make. Too bad I put most of that money back into the game to own my own sims... lol!
