Default Dungeon Fighter Online (Nexon NA) shutting down

I thought this was somewhat popular?

No, it's not an April Fool's Joke.

    Dear Dungeon Fighters,

In 2009, Nexon America was proud to release one of Nexon’s unique and most popular titles, Dungeon Fighter Online (DFO). Since the launch, Neople’s development team and Nexon America’s publishing team partnered to bring to you the action packed promise of DFO.

For more than three years, our teams worked hard in hopes of building a strong community through new content updates, service fixes, and events. We tirelessly battled hackers and farmers. We even had the honor of presenting the game to you at E3 and PAX. However, Dungeon Fighter Online was not able to grow beyond its very special and proud core following.

Sadly, Dungeon Fighter Online has not attracted enough player interest to properly service the game. Internally, we struggled deeply with the popularity of DFO in North America as the title is immensely popular overseas. For more than three years, we went through many milestones and several pushes before we came to this very difficult decision.

We sincerely regret to inform you that we will be bringing Nexon America’s service of DFO to an end.

We understand that many of you will be disappointed by this news. We hope that the game represents some of your great gaming memories. You have made new friends, created awesome characters, picked up some epic loot, and recorded some unforgettable victories. We, too, have loved working on this game, and learned a lot through our relationship with DFO.

A ramp-down of the game will begin on April 11, 2013, with the closing of the cash shop. Full service will discontinue on June 13, 2013.

We will compensate players for the purchase of unused or partially-used Permanent and Durational items purchased within the past six months. The dollar value is correlated with the time of purchase, the status of the item, etc.. More information regarding compensation can be found here.

Working on DFO during the past three years has been an honor, and we thank all of you Dungeon Fighters for joining us on this exciting journey.

    - Min Kim, CEO, Nexon America

I know it's really dated, I just thought it still had a dedicated playerbase. I guess not.

I thought Dragon's Nest would get scrapped before this.

There are still 3 unreleased characters for DFO.

Yeah... the stamina system was removed ages ago... Sadly, it did cause a rather large increase of botters.

time to go try getting Arad Senki to work again

Edit: have to agree with the posts on the the dfosource forums. Nexon's mismanagement of the game when it came to advertisement, moderating, bots, and hackers, on top of the constant "so when is this game going to be shut-down?" posts on the official forums, it really was just a matter of time.

as always, damn shame to see this go due to mismanagement & neglect.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone pick this up at some point. I don't feel this had anything to do with the game specifically not being popular but pretty much Nexon's terrible servers, poor service and obscenely overpriced item-shop pushing people away.

Im sure the game would thrive if placed in more nurturing hands.

Next up is for Nexon to kill DN NA so Cherrycredits can offer us access to SEA, and then we NA people can actually play a version of DN that is great.

Down with Nexon! May they burn for all eternity! Chant the anti-Nexon message, for a better tomorrow!

everything was pretty much the same as kr even the item pricing. Honestly Ive said it before and ill say it again now I think dfo truly died because of a. popularity and b. we dont have pvp e sport here like korea does and we all know how much koreans love their dnf pvp. The game was never gonna go up alot has to do with fan forums always *****ing about the game causing people to not want to play much like digimon masters forums people dont want to see that.

    That's a shocker :o

Probably just means theres a new game around they corner nexon want to put time and money into instead of an older game.

Doesn't really effect me seeing I never played it because of the IP block lol.

As for Maple dying that will never happen in the next 5 years but I could see dragon nest dying out within 2 years like viney said :P

i liked mabinogi but quit after a month or so since nexon pretty much rips off the entire EU side of the community (nexon as alot of other publishers treats currency as $=€.... ok i can forgive that somehow, but all of the cash shop items in EU cost another 1000NX more)

after looking at that i havent played a single nexon game again <.<

In my first two years of playing DFO I kept telling myself that the english DFO is fun, and is a good replacement for DnF.

I never realized how wrong I was.

You're in Australia why would you have been ip blocked? Oceanic players were able to play from 2012 i think.

Nexon is profitable because they tend to nab good games which turn a profit even after the NA (and the EU) branch horribly mismanages them.

Really, it's not surprising to see DFO close down since Nexon has quite literally not updated it in the last six months even for basic things like holiday avatars so it has just been a matter of waiting to see when they would announce the closing officially. I'd say there are three key points which Nexon screwed up on:

    1) Poor customer support and goldseller control. While Nexon

They neglect and kill the game, and reward us with free potions in other games. No complimentary pet or anything like that, but recovery potions....
