Default Factors you consider when choosing a game

Ever since action MMORPG's came out, i feel like point-and-click or WASD + mouse and target-locked combat would already feel boring to me. Well, i just tried Rose Online again as i keep seeing there are many players. Plus i wasn't really able to explore the game years back. It's well-made for an mmorpg that started 2005-ish but im having some hesitations because of the controls. but overall, i think i could learn to love it and they say it only takes about 2weeks for you to reach cap. Im just after end game PvP actually

So how about you, what factors do you consider when you are choosing a game to play?

    Is it fun ?
Does my only friend want to play it or is playing it?
    Does it have cool armors?
Does it have open world PK? If so im not going tuch it ever like age of wushu.

I take into consideration two main things.

    1. Is it fun?
    2. Does it have a healthy community?

    1. must have open pk or at the very least faction vs faction open world pvp
    2. must not be too grindy (the precise definition of 'too grindy' depends on my mood, my free time and the previous game that i played for comparison)
    3. must have a large player base - pvp is pointless if there are no people playing the game
    4. game must be open world, not instance-based or mission-based nonsense like vindictus, c9 et. al.

i also consider a lot of other factors, but these are the most important

I ask myself a few things:

What does this game have that makes me want to pull myself from the current game I'm playing?

How often does it get updated?

    How big is the community?

It must be either pretty, colourful, or both. Maple Story and Survival Project are pretty and colourful. Also, needs an active community. Survival Project's dead, so no to that.
I haven't found many games recently that are pretty, colourful, and have an active community.

Developer connection with the community. If the community is getting ignored early on, I don't have much hope for the future of the game.

    The game should look good.
And it should have some kind of PvP, preferably open pvp/pk.

Usually the feel of a game, before I get to play it, entices me to play. But after a little issue I had with Halo: Combat Evolved I think it's best that I play it to tell whether I like it. Sometimes text on a screen, a video, a screenshot or word of mouth just doesn't cut it. Not to mention I'm pretty lenient about how the features fit a game.

... Then again I'm prone to ignore the majority of MMOs nowadays to the ever going 'cookie-cutter' & 'generic' vibe I get when I see them pop up, let alone the dinosaur I'm currently running.

Mmmm so many things, graphics, fluidity in gameplay and animation, ambiance, storyline, quest system, interface, inventory system, classes, races, design of armors, level design, dungeon system, group system, difficulty, skill system, customisation, stat system, types of pvp, pvp balance, amount of control you have on your character (CC/breaking CC/ defensive cooldowns/mobility), quantity of grind, community and economy.

I think that's it for now.
Doesn't mean everything is a prerequisite, but let's say they're all aspects that are very important in mmos in general and which I base my judgement on.

If they fail on too many levels, generally I will quit within a week or 2 of starting.
Especially interface, animation and character skills.

    Character Customization
    Action Game play
    PvP
    Instance Dungeons with Matchmaker
Will not touch anything with real cash economy
    Decent developers/company
    Nice community

IDC about graphics, people make too much of an emphasis on that these days

I'll try out most F2P games if they seem fun. I won't spend money on a F2P game unless the community is good and the game seems like it will last a long time though.
