Default ArcheAge may be F2P ....

ArcheAge may be F2P in China , what about Trion ?

ArcheAge launched with a subscription model in its native Korea, but XLGAMES founder Jake Song says that a free-to-play model may be better for the title's Chinese release. Song's comments came as he attended a recent awards ceremony, according to MMO Culture, but there is no official word from the company as of yet.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure people will bother playing the Chinese version with everything that includes...like applying english patches that get outdated and eventually never updated again, high ping and so on... Not to mention the cash shop and the possibility of getting banned or IP blocked adding more crap to the list.

People is not that cheap, and if they are they will have to stick to the chinese version with the problems that carries.

Realistically what other choice did Trion have with Defiance? The game is abysmal. Not like it would have survived with a p2p model.

p2p won't kill games that actually have the content and "meat" to warrant such a fee. It's the reason why WoW has been able to keep that payment model for nearly a decade. FFXI is still p2p. Is Everquest 1 still p2p? It may have a f2p option now.

Regardless, the point is, a successful p2p games pretty much guarantees you quality and timely content. But in order for it to be successful in the first place, it needs to have the proper starting content. Quality, manageable PvP and quality, challenging PvE (specifically endgame content).

This thing about p2p ruining the genre, is just incredibly wrong. It's p2p games that don't possess the quality, content or support to warrant such a fee. We've seen it time and time again where a game is essentially a barebones WoW, example: SWTOR.

Sounds good, WOW is really the only one that still get's away with a monthly fee and that's because of the playerbase using it as a chatroom.

Big releases are rarely F2P in America first. We're still trying to adapt to the F2P era that we are in.

Doesn't the chinese government limit people's internet/MMO game time? In that case free to play for all their games would make more sense.
If it releases, at this point I don't even care as long as it doesn't suck and isn't another games where everyone solos and has to go through a half hearted story that makes everyone escially the same character (like blade and Soul, TERA, The Secret World, Age of Conan or Guild Wars 2, etc etc)
