Almost anything is better when you have a friend to share it with and games are no exception.
Whether it's a card game or one of the worst MMOs ever made it's sure not to seem as bad(you may even have fun!) if you have another person to play with. But does it really make the game better? No. No it doesn't.
MMOs are designed to be played by several people and you do get more out of the game when playing with others.
However, there is a growing trend in gaming where the social aspect of the game is used in attempt to bypass quality. Players are expected to overlook things that just aren't right because they are playing with other people.
For example take a look at the popular, F2P game: APB Reloaded.
It is on most accounts a bad game. The combat it twitchy and glitchy and seems like it was taken straight from the Unreal 3 engine with very little editing.
Despite this, you will constantly find people saying things like "You have to play with others for it to really be good."
When did players start caring so little about the games they play?
The social aspect of gaming should be a bonus not the only thing that keeps it afloat.
Don't think developers are not noticing this or that they will not take advantage of it for a quick buck. I am not a person who typically rants about slippery slope conspiracies, but I don't think anything positive can come out of this mind set.
We may end up in a post-apocalyptic world filled with nothing filth and garbage, but at least well have each other.
Right?
