If you're currently attending school, it may be that they don't want to hire someone that would require working around a school schedule? Otherwise, I'm not sure. The over-qualification thing may be true for retail/fast food type jobs, as managers may feel that having someone else with a degree may be a threat to their position as it is often the case that the only requirement to get a manager position in those types of jobs is to have some sort of college education. A majority of companies make it a policy not to hire managers if they haven't gone to college, even if that person has been working at the store for a decade. And the only thing probably keeping your managers job their job is that they are hiring people that only have a HS Diploma or GED.
