Default Archeage Business Model Fails in Korea

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/09...ng-archeage-p/

Is XLGAMES in trouble? There's a rumor coming out of Korea that may indicate as much, according to MMO Culture. The website says that XL is preparing for a round of restructuring "after ArcheAge did not meet financial expectations in the Korean market after the massive outlay for its development."

The fantasy sandpark title has been in development since 2006 and debuted with a subscription business model before going free-to-play. ArcheAge still has not launched in the West, and publisher Trion remains mum on any sort of release date.

Well, all I can say is that - while Archeage is certainly a great game - it did disappoint me quite a bit when I played it on the korean servers. So I can't say I'm that surprised. But yeah, it's still sad that it doesn't seem to do that well :/

MMOs nowadays seem to have it pretty hard, even korean AAA titles like Archeage :o

    It's all the competition IMO.

It could be successful in NA though. D&F is still one of the most popular games in KR yet it failed overseas. Of course... publishers are to blame in some cases.

Please note though. A game success varies from country to country.

How did Aion fall so much, and why is SC2 not up there? Good to see that my favorite game is #1.

    1. SC2 Esports scene has been dying out for over a year now thanks to League
    2. Blizzard keeps changing and rebalancing the game mechanics, especially with the hots changes, pissed off a lot of the korean players so they went back to the original game.

Also Fifa is popular in every country other than the US/Canada, especially the games. And Koreans and Japanese both seem to really really like Sudden Attack, I have no idea why but if you go to the Nico Nico streams the majority of the game streams are SA ones.

I've seen this list often, and I've been telling people AION is ridiculously popular in korea, as well as B&S.
Thus the hype I have for them. I mean a year has passed since B&S came out and it's still p2p/popular in Korea

I've also said that Arche wasn't going to be great. But that was my opinion.
Glad to see my hype train won't have to die down for my most anticipated games.
