Saw it coming.. The game was never super popular. It was a niche game with a niche player base, and they wouldn't get with the times. The same fate will eventually happen to other games like Darkfall and possibly even FFXIV, but it could take 8-10 years, so it doesn't really matter either way.

At least this company actually stuck to their guns and stayed P2P the entire time, and refused to follow the F2P train. It's a little sad though, because it could've elongated the game's run immensely, or even made it an ongoing success like RIFT. <-- Another example of a Western made MMO that went F2P.

This is a big shock to me but I guess it will only boost the playerbase of Champions of Regnum. It's a major plus for an indie game which is similar to Warhammer, yet can outlast it in terms of survival. It suggests that Regnum's pvp balance is really out there in a class of its own.

At first I couldn't understand why Warhammer shut down. But re-googling the reasons, I begin to remember why :-
" If the classes are not balanced, players quickly feel like their own skill does not determine the outcome of battles. "
    http://www.alteredgamer.com/warhamme...-it-a-failure/

That's a major problem for a pvp mmo. Regnum spends huge amounts of self-criticism and discussion about ensuring that a player's skill is the prime determinant of pvp outcomes - and not something else like the cash shop, grind or gear.

it was announced over a year ago, I should know. I am a fan of the Warhammer and 40K universe/lore. I played the tabletop and minis more than I did any other game.

I am not surprised that this is shutting down. They had no real intentions to make it F2P. If they did, it would have given it some rejuvenation and possibly an increase on popularity and profits.

I played this in beta and release. Continue to play it for almost a year till I realized that they are not going to do anything with it and just let is sit and die.

I agree with others. GW needs to find another developer for the game and make it F2P.

Or it's more like F2P isn't the solution for every ****ing game.

Actually it was the decision of the company who owns the franchise. If you read the article, you will notice they point out it was the decision of GW to not continue on with the game.

Thats something you guys forget... there is more than just a publisher and developer who has the say so about many games developement/advancement.

It would have been nice if they did what Turbine did... I am sure the game would succeed under that type of F2P model.
