    Default Completely lost

Hello everyone, in the past few days I've come along a problem with my laptop and have been trying ever since to fix it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a solution and now I've come to you guys for some help. I'm not entirely sure if I can explain this correctly, so I'll try my best to make it simple.

Whenever I start up my computer, whether it is plugged in via ethernet cable or wireless, the icon at the bottom right always shows the computer with the red "x" saying that I'm not connected to the internet. However, I can browse on the internet perfectly fine. The weird thing is that nothing else works: Skype, Steam, Hamachi, FFXIV, League of Legends... I guess anything that requires an internet connection? I'm not exactly sure. After a while, if I wait 30mins-1hr, the red "x" goes away and all my programs run fine again. So... does anyone know why it's doing this? ><

I've tried quite a few solutions already --

    - Updating drivers
    - Restarting modem and router
    - Enabling Background Intelligent Transfer Services and Cryptographic Services

and I think there's others which I'm forgetting.

There's a possibility they could be working on the lines in your neighborhood.

Your modem should have a page stating in which state it is in. (online, offline, rejected, line-loopback, etc) Checking this while it's offline could give you a hint what's happening.
Running a tracert to a website and to a game-server could also give a hint.

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

I'd try switching to Google's free DNS instead of the one provided by your ISP to see if the problems go away. The IPs I use are 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 (yes, really)

Unlikely that this is the problem. If it was, the symptoms would be the opposite.

However, it can't hurt to try, so feel free to do so. I can confirm that the IPs are correct.

Hm, I'll try these solutions out tomorrow. As of now it's working fine and I've yet to run into the problem.. yet.
