hey duby, it is only natural for humans to fear death, nothingness. Has always been this way since ancient times. Take a step back and realize that the main allure of religion is the comfort it gives; a solution for death, a promise that our lives do not end.
Asking Jesus to be our savior and repent our sins is a system of vicarious redemption, very outdated and similar to the blood sacrifices that people in the past (still happening now?) have done to appease their so called Gods (Apollo, Zeus etc..). The only reasonable and moral way to repent for our sins is to face the consequences of our actions and not depend on another being to wipe it all off.
Last of all, if there is an almighty being, ask yourself how did you determine that it is Christianity and not the Muslim faith or Hinduism that is telling the truth? A very probable guess is that your born into a Christian community/family/country, realize that religion is made by humans for humans. If Christianity is the one true religion then why isn't there a consensus of how he looks like, or who he appears to throughout the world? Doesn't it puzzle you that the images of gods from different religions look similar to the people of that race? Live in a reality and gather evidence on what is happening in the real world, whatever that is happening to the world right now is a consequence of human activity on the earth (if u read the news and books). If there are people i would repent my sins in this dying world that you speak of, it would be my parents. They are the ones who have really demonstrated unconditional love ever since i was born, answered my wishes (prayers if you may) to the best of their abilities and have provided me with food and shelter when i was at my weakest. Live in the present Duby, don't be fixated on anonymous translations of an ancient book based on practices of ancient times. Cherish this one life and live it to the fullest, it will be more fulfilling.
