How to dress for snowy weather?

I live down in Los Angeles, California so it's warm most of the time. My friends and I are planning a trip to Big Bear in mid January which means it'll be winter season with snow and the temperature falling to about 30°F. The problem is, I don't have any snow weather clothing and I don't know how to dress for it. All I have are a bunch of blazers, cardigans, jackets, and a sweater which I'm pretty sure are not snow weather acceptable.

I need some advise on male clothing that I should buy and get ready for this upcoming trip so I don't freeze my butt off. Thanks!

I normally wear just a sweatshirt or hoodie at 30, below that I may consider a heavier coat to avoid frostbite (that shit hurts). For someone from a warmer area, just wear a winter coat, some gloves and mabye a hat. Don't put on too much, or you will sweat and regret that even more later. Sweat + cold = holy shit I am suddenly very cold and you can end up very sick.

It's probably going to hit under 30°F and hopefully no snow storms.

I'm most likely going to buy a winter coat, gloves, and boots because my Vans have no traction and gets soaked easily. Great time to go buy some new socks to because I only have 2 pairs left. Would jeans be a viable option for pants? Also, if temperature does hit under 30°F, is a hat still necessary? I usually don't wear hats so I want to avoid an unnecessary purchase such as those.

Jeans are pretty bomb in the winter, keeps me warm and air doesn't get in.
Hoodie under a nice jacket leather jack looks nice, keeps you warm and comfortable.
Sweaters are fine with a regular winter jacket.
Double socks or just some nice thermal socks keeps your feet warm.
Work shoes/Boots is always better then dress shoes here.
I dislike scarfs myself(They feel useless) but it's always an option if you get a cold nose often.
Gloves and a nice wool hat keeps ya warm and comfy.

30 F's not too far below 0 C, right? just get some gloves, a coat/jacket of any type you want, maybe a touque/beanie. if you're gonna be walking in heavy snow, obviously get some boots.

personally I just wear a t-shirt underneath my jacket most of the time, and a pair of jeans. unless if I'm going skiing or something, it works out fine. just wear regular socks and underwear obviously.

oh yeah, get woolen gloves. I agree with oister that having yr movement restricted sucks, but you can still do most things with woolen gloves. as opposed to nylon or whatever gloves with the padding.
