    Default Money Basket

I was thinking about going to church today. However, the expectation that every person in attendance donate ~5% of their weekly income seems absurd.

I mean, really. That adds up. It's a lot of money.

I'm not sure where the cash goes but operators of these establishments always seem to be living really well.

I've never been to a church that has expectations about how much you put in the donation basket. Well, maybe A catholic church, but I've never been to one.

But yeah, a majority of Christian preachers live off of retirement or have another job. Most congregations simply don't give enough to fully fund a full-time preachers, so you usually have to have something to fall back on to help support you. My grandpa, for example, was a retired police officer/chief. He was a preacher for 30 or so years of his life. Even up til the last year, he had to have a part-time job working as a guard in some government complex in St. Louis to be able to keep afloat. Most of his churches were small rural ones in towns with less than a thousand people.

It was the same with my uncle until a few years ago.

But some churches do end up getting enough to support at least one person full-time, usually in the bigger towns and cities. And then there are the super-churches that bring in millions a year.

That being said, now that I think about it. My current town (population of 900) has 6 or so different churches in it. I'm wondering how well that works out.

is that a thing? i used to be a roman catholic, and yeah they would pass around a collection basket after communion, but no one cared if you didn't donate anything. and when people did donate anything, it was usually like a few dollars. maybe it's different in protestant christianity, idunno.

don't approve of those mega-churches, tho

And if all the Devil's minions were let
    Loose to do their will,
I think they'd be hard pressed to match
    In diabolic skill,
The wickedness and treachery of this evangelic horde,
Who sheler their corruption with the banner of their Lord.
