    Default Curious about Mabinogi

I always was curious about mmo called Mabinogi but never tryed because the graphics always stop me from downloading it. I hear the game is very popular and the game itself is rated high. I see videos on it and the game looks very out of date, Im really interested on know why is this game so popular?

    - I see ppl talking about Mabinogi 2, is tht part of the same game or two separate games?
    - Is the game worth starting now?

First things first, Mabinogi 2 has been cancelled for the time being. It was to be a separate game that is kind of like a Vindi/Mabi Hybrid (if I recall correctly)

Mabinogi is popular for quite a few reasons. It has a classes system for one, you pick a skill set to "specialize" in on character creation/Rebirth, but that only makes you rank up skills that fall under that category faster and it affects your stat growth upon leveling up, which isn't a big deal.

Each week you can rebirth, rebirthing brings you down to level 1 again, but you retain all skill levels and all stats gained from ranking a skill (ie, you gain 30 Strength from having Rank 1 Smash, you rebirth, you keep that 30 Strength)

The game is worth starting, newbies can rebirth every single day until Total Level 1000. That's enough to master a skill set (save a few extremely costly ones, like Magic and Guns) You can also reset your skills for free before Total 1000 so you can experiment as much as you'd like. (Be warned, it adds up your Normal Levels, and Exploration Levels when calculating the Total 1000. The latter is gained through exploring the other continent)

But anyway, there is a ton of stuff to do in Mabi that is not combat based. You can make a character that never picks up a weapon and crafts or plays music. You can level off of the commerce system by bringing goods from one city to another.

Keep in mind the combat is twitch based, you need to click to attack, and certain skills counter other ones. For example, Defense>Normal Attack. You'll stop and be open for an attack, but Smash>Defense, on the other hand Smash loses to Counterattack, etc etc.

Its worth a shot, just don't be one of those grouchy players that hates on the people that have played for 3+years and have everything maxed :P no one likes those players.

Its not on my computer right now, but when I had it installed, I believe it was because my video card could not run the game.

Ohh x-x figured I'd ask since my friend had a slew of issues trying to play so I needed to help him through all of them lol

If you think those pets and reforges are essential to playing the game, you're terribly misguided. High end reforges are only really "needed" on certain skill sets, and that is only because those skill sets are lacking alone (Lances and Bows) Both of my characters have no issue whatsoever going through Hard and Elite Shadow Missions without reforged equipment and those (limited edition) mounts.

If you think that is p2w, then you must think nearly every f2p on the market is too.

Essential? No, but the fact that they are blatantly huge power boosts only available from the cash shop means it's pay2win, like most f2p mmos. Path of Exile's cash shop is one that is blatantly anti-pay2win. Any cash shop that sells exclusive POWER UPS are pay2win in my opinion, this game is just much more so than others. Even Vindictus, where you can gamble real money to get strong weapons, or outfits and VIP services with stat boosts attached is less pay2win in my opinion than what Mabinogi is today, with those pet effects getting more and more outrageous. It doesn't mean you can't succeed without paying2win, it's just that the option to pay to have all the combat trivialized is there, which ruins the experience in my opinion, like all those mobile games with microtransactions to basically make the challenge go away.

Every game has someone who *****es and moans about "pay-to-win", I completely understand it if the game is heavily PVP based as your going to be competing against people who bought their "amazing" gear. But honestly in a PVE based game, what are they winning?

I know people love putting Path of Exile as the "grail of non-pay-to-win cash shops", but what good is a game when the only selling feature is "non-pay to win cash shop"?

    I rest my case.

I'll go with Coupon's words on this one again too. Reforges can be gotten by anyone, they're sold quite often and money is not something that is hard to make in Mabinogi. As for those mounts, yeah they're strong, but its not like they get people one over me (or anyone else for that matter) and even if you have them, they aren't going to let you solo things that you normally wouldn't be able to unless you purchased an insane amount (talking 10+ here) and the people that did purchase 10+ tend to just be god-tier 5k+ Total Level people that can do whatever they want with or without those mounts.
