Default Is WoW really that fun?

Is WoW really that fun? Brought subscription today and played from lvl 1. I'm a new player and I find it boring. Travelling around to do quest is really boring for me, to add on, sometimes it is very difficult to walk here and there, finding locations, due to mountains and high slopes. Perhaps I haven't reach the level where raids are happening. Currently level 12 and I can't stand continuing playing it.

you start encountering dungeons from about 17 onward.
WoW is THE themepark mmo, so if those aren't your thing then wow won't be appealing.

I'd prefer mmorpgs like FFXIV, Cabal, Tera, DN those kinds.

World of Warcraft is fun. I personally enjoyed the PvP rather than the PvE content (i.e Raiding / Dungeons / Questing). PvP was practically my method of leveling up, but I'd quest / dungeon occasionally to mix things up.

If you're one of those people who get turned off pretty easily by repetitive game play - But want to get into the end-game content - You're gonna have to force yourself to enjoy it. I'm not gonna lie, I did this and I actually started to enjoy the game.

The reason why FFXIV seems more fun in terms of story, is due to the way the story literally pulls you into it. Like, literally. When you jump into your first instanced solo story quest in the open world... it makes you go, "Whoa." Sometimes, you immediately get thrown into a fight with no cutscene when you enter the "Duty," which makes it even more thrilling.

That isn't to say other things in FFXIV are not fun though. Some FATEs are complex, like the multi-ended FATE that is known as Attack on Highbridge. It has two endings, and branches.

Only plays Magic DPS Classes, Healers and Machinist/Engineers.

To me WoW is like that old rpg you used to play a few years ago. A few, few, few years ago.

There are other better things to play now. Ah nostalgia. But is it worth a sub? I'd say no. Just my opinion.

Disclaimer: Don't listen to me, I'm obviously out of my mind to talk bad about WoW.

Also.....UNLEASH THE KRAKEN. I feel better now. </3

I found WoW very dull, but I played it back in the day where most of the quests ended up being one of the "mmo pentagram quests".

You know... Kill X Monsters, Find X Drops from Monsters, Escort NPC X, Deliver Item to NPC X, Find NPC or Random Object X.

I hear it carved out most of those and replaced them with decent quests though.

Some of the starting areas may also hop you around expansions randomly rather than get you into vanilla >> BC >> etc.

If you didn't catch onto WoW in its glory days (Vanilla, BC) it might be difficult to capture it's essence now.

WoW is nice because it is immediately recognized by the largest audience compared to other lesser known mmorpgs.

It is basically a lesser version of LoL in that regard. LoL is very popular because it is widely recognized as a legitimate and competitive esport. If this were not the case LoL wouldn't be nearly as popular. Granted there is a Catch55 since you have be popular to gain more popularity. People want to practice the game in order to some day gain recognition for their ability.

The reason popularity brings in more people is because you could be the best player in some obscure X game, but that doesn't mean squat because nobody knows or recognizes that game. As a result you are the lonely king of your own fictional domain, your accomplishments mean nothing to an outside audience, they might as well be fabricated accomplishments spawned from a disturbed mind.

A point can be made here about p2w games when it comes to individual player recognition. In a p2w game you can acquire massive wealth (or some other achievement), but that wealth amounts to no source of esteem because anyone can acquire said achievement or better by paying real money. You are the lonely king of your fictional domain, your accomplishments mean nothing in a p2w game.

WoW and FFXIV are indeed pretty similar in most aspects.

Main differences are minor features here and there for both, graphics (AKA FFXIV's detail vs WoW's cartoony stuff, I like both), gameplay complexity and speed (WoW being the more complex (fighting classes, not crafting) and faster paced one) FFXIV's story being a bit more omnipresent, WoW having more content and WoW actually having fun pvp.

I'm max level in both, played both for quite a while. (starting wow round BC and being a legacy in FFXIV)
I'm currently paying both subs too since I like to switch sometimes.
Overall, I like WoW better mostly because the gameplay is simply more fluid and faster paced, making everything more fun to do. The actual story is more interesting (all hail our green jesus, Thrall.) and overall has better boss encounters, I'd say dungeons too but we didnt get much of those in Mists of Pandaria which made me very very sad.

Alot of the menus in ffxiv still lack alot of polish and can feel clunky and intrusive, making playing the AH (one of my main activities) more tedious.

All this said, I have to admit, in wow, they never bother to look much at the low lvl balance or skills, etc for that matter, making the low lvl experience boring on some character classes. WoW 'starts' at max lvl and thats what most people playing it care about.

TLDR : IF u a grafik hoe, or want story shoved in yo face, go ffxiv, if you think 'gameplay first' and like cartoony stuff, go wow. Unless ya like slower paced gameplay, then go ffxiv.

    There're great story/storylines in WoW.
They are just not the 'one storyline to follow' like in FFXIV.
The story in WoW are more subtle. You start to see it in each new zone you go to. Mostly, the dungeon quests. Back in the days, when I learnt of the corruption in Stormwind, the involvement of the Black Dragons, and all that, my mind was blown.

In WoW, I guess you have to get to end game to enjoy it. That's where the 'real' game and all the players are.

Also, if you're only just getting into it now, it has had 10 years of content built on top of the original content. That means that a lot of what you might find could be 'dead content'. Makes it hard for a new player to get into a game after such a long time I think.

You should try to join a guild. That made WoW worthwhile to me back when I played. You'll get help and have a lot more fun having people to play with.

It is one of the most polished and 'complete' MMO's out there today still. Once you get some friends in-game and start doing dungeons etc with them, that is when it becomes fun. Just grinding away on your own in any game gets boring pretty fast.
There are some really nice quests in WoW too.

I really like it. So much content, so much to grind for, great feeling when a boss finally drops an item you've been trying to get. The only flaw I see is that there's not enough for me to grind for for hours at a time. To get exalted with the cloud serpents took me about 7 hours because I could just keep realm hopping until I collected all the onyx eggs, and I had so much fun doing that. There's not enough of that, I believe. Could be wrong.

I got WoW back in 2004, bought and played every expansion to date, except for MoP, until last week.

Blizz gave free MoP to all accounts (I think) and I was also given a week of free game time so I gave it a go.
I had the greatest time actually leveling my DK from 85 to 90, after that it soon became evident to me what a boring piece of turd the game is nowadays. My hard earned epics were first replaced by epics from the timeless isle, a seemingly easy piece of content that allows you to basically replace ur previous gears with epics gained from opening boxes around the island and killing any mobs. I remember back in 2004 how hard it was to actually gear up, and now it seems the game is on turbo easy mode just to please fat kids who want rewards without work. Disappointing and ridiculous to say the least. So in 1 day I had replaced my gears, 2nd day I was replacing some of the new gears, 3rd day I had reached the item level required for raiding(ridiculous). Imo all the dungeons and raids I played were lame, I wasn't really enjoying any of the content. By 5th day I was already so utterly bored with the game I just couldn't continue.

Was the new expansion and content original enough to attract an old player back? Hell no. Worst expansion to date.

In conclusion, No - I don't find WoW much fun anymore. The best part was doing some PvP and dueling, is that enough to make me pay for the game? Not even close.

This experience actually made me question whether video games are fun or worth playing anymore

You're lucky that you're not playing WoW like WoW used to be back then in Vanilla. Right now with this 6.0 pre-patch, the experience gained to level was significantly reduced. The game is practically giving you levels. You have to find a leveling pace. If one zone is level 20-25, once you hit 25, don't continue to quest in the zone, and move to the next zone that is 25-30. At the same time, queue up for dungeons, because they basically give you 1-2 levels after completing it. While you may be new, there will be veteran players leveling alts with heirlooms items (gear that gives you extra exp), and you can cruise through a dungeon in about 10 to 15 mins.

The game is simple and the way you want to play the game is entirely up to you end game.

WoW is great. Out of all MMOs i've played, this got me hooked for the longest time. For me, it's all about the people you play with and the content you do WITH the people you play with. I quit since my friends log on just to check AH, finish dailies, etc etc. It didn't feel like an adventure anymore.

Go get some friends to play with, and you'll have the best time.
