So I've been trying to get KOTOR to work on my computer for the past few days. I've had no luck. I'm running Windows 7.
The issue I'm having is I will launch the game and it'll get to the main menu just fine. I can do everything there perfectly fine - I can make a new character, change my settings, etc... The issue appears whenever I try to load a game (I was able to play just fine back in 2011-2012). It will act like it's going to load, but as soon as the bar gets to 80% full the game crashes. If I'm making a new character, the game crashes as soon as character creation is finished.
To be clear, it's a "KOTOR has stopped working/responding" type crash.
Any ideas?
Edit: Found the fix about ten minutes after posting this thread. After three days of searching. It was completely by luck, too. I've been googling like crazy but never found anything that worked. Then I randomly opened the KOTOR steam forum today and the top thread contained the fix. However, the fix was labeled for Windows 8.1 users, but I figured "What the hell?" and clicked hoping for a miracle and got one![]()
Anyways, compliments of DethRuler64 on Steam.
I bought Kotor a while back and I just recently got a new computer. It just so happened that the hardware may have caused the game to crash after creating your character. For anyone else having this problem, here is a quick fix.
1. Go to your Swkotor directory, which should be under steam/steamapps/Common/Swkotor. The default place for this is under your Program files (86x). You can also go directly to the steam app, right click your game, click properties, Local files, and then browse local files. this may be easier.
2. In your Swkotor files, look for the file called SWkotor.ini and double click that.
3. Look for Frame Buffer, and set that to 0.
That should do it. You can also try turning V-Sync on and Hardware Mouse off, but I believe this is the main culprit for this problem.
