The only other examples of a main protagonist using his intelligence in a similar fashion to be Godlike/highly respected (instead of just being dumb) and have stories and settings kinda similar to Death Note are would be:

No Game No Life
Aldnoah.Zero
They also have the benefit of being pretty good.

Well I found one for now, I should add I'm looking for dark, gothic style.
I found one called Darker than Black. Short 1 season with OV's. Gonna do this one first. Than check Kashi's list.

Code Geass is the only really "truly" similar anime.
The others mentioned are just too different and just not as good. Though, yeah there are quite some real life series I'd consider similar. As mentioned Breaking Bad, but I'd even consider stuff like Prison Break similar.
But while we're at it. I think the Protagonist in The World Only God Knows is kind of like Kira. Except instead of killing people he wins the love of the girls (despite not even liking them at all). Well Kira does that with Misa too.
Also if you like Attack On Titan, my top recommendation would be Sidonia no Kishi.
