Trolling vs Bullying

What do you consider Trolling? When do you think it crosses the line to Bullying?

Simple trolling is often equated to practical jokes. You get a reaction. You giggle.
But when does it become something worse? That is, after thought, impossible to say as it is determined entirely by the person on the receiving end.

Sure there are sadistic people who get a feeling of completeness by griefing or bullying others. Whose pleasure is demoralization and destruction the of joy wherever possible. This is in no way a good thing. There are no redeeming qualities.

However, a large amount of griefing/bullying takes place without the perpetrator intending or knowing it happened. Different people have different views of what they find to be acceptable or funny. For example, The same your mom joke may make one person laugh and another cry.

It can be hard to tell them apart at times. The only real way is to see how they react when they find out how they made someone feel.


This thought has made me realize that through out my life I have probably come off as a giant dick to a lot people and made them feel like shit when I really didn't mean to. I am going to try to consider how people may feel about my actions regardless of my intentions. And sorry to any of you I have offended in the past.

Trolling makes people angry.
Bullying makes people sad.

I do absolutely not agree that any of both can happen without intent. That's a confused concept. Let's say I say something offensive out of some form of ignorance. There is, depending on the outcome, excusable and non-excusable ignorance. However, It's miles from a planed attack. If there is no intention to cause harm, I was trying to make a constructive contribution. The act of bullying (and trolling) thrives on dis-empowering the victim. Unintentional offensive speech does not do that.
In short you give misplaced credit to, or place blame on idiots if you call them trolls and bullies.

In an example:
You are wondering in the OP: Am I actually an involuntary troll/bully, because of saying stupid stuff?
Answer: No you aren't. You are just (sorry to say so and no saying it in any ill will or scope outside the thread and matter at hand) being a persistent idiot. You see, a lot of people arrive at the same worry as you do, mainly because of innocent naivety. I was wondering that too once. It's much easier to draw the line when observing someone beside yourself anyways.
However, the line between saying something dumb and saying something in ill fate is a wide canyon indeed.
